Suggestion

Navtv is very buggy, the owner\founder of 2point5 (the specdock guys) have been using them, but claim they will be replacing all their installs with the Dension unit as soon as they finish testing it, which should be about a week or so.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Porsche Beverly Hills has recommended that I get a NavTV unit installed from Al & Eds AutoSound. I spoke with them and they told me that NavTV was the only option. From what I've read here about the Dension and Neo(?) units, it doesn't sound like this is true and this makes me rather wary. I read on some other threads that NavTV was making the units for Dension so now I'm even more confused. I did find a user guide for the NavTV unit. http://navtv.com/download/porsche/OPiP_User.pdf And some info on the Dension: http://www.bumperplugs.com/DensionGroupBuy2.html The UI looks the same between the NavTV and the Dension unit (I suppose that must be because they are all playing through the CD changer interface). Erik from Bumerplugs said that the Dension unit was better and that the NavTV unit was buggy, but I don't really know how to evaluate that statement. The Dension unit certainly costs less! Help!

POST 2Original post

Not too keen on Al & Eds AutoSound, are you sure they know what they are doing? I would take the CS back to the dealer for the install.

POST 3Original post

Al & Eds is who the dealer was going to have my install done by. I'm checking to see if they can work with the other installer (Six Auto Sound) that I found in the are. The Denison unit sounds pretty nice (iPod, USB storage, aux input) so I am currently leaning towards it...

POST 4Original post

Eric is correct the NavTV unit is buggy, as a member found out here previously and I believe returned or re-sold it in order to get the Dension unit.

POST 5Original post

I have the Nav TV unit which works perfectly well and as far as I can tell isn't buggy in the slightest. I bought it because the website leads you to believe that it is plug and play. This is not the case and the unit has to be spliced into the fibre optical stuff just like the Dension unit. Its more expensive so do yourselves a favour and just get the Dension one based on the price, God I love having my ipod back. G.

POST 6Original post

Navtv is very buggy, the owner\founder of 2point5 (the specdock guys) have been using them, but claim they will be replacing all their installs with the Dension unit as soon as they finish testing it, which should be about a week or so. The Dension isn't perfect, but we all know it went through a lot whooole lot more testing, and they are continuing to develop the software because its firmware upgradable.

POST 7Original post

I've decided to go with the Dension unit. I'm mostly concerned now about getting it installed without voiding my warranty. The dealer I am purchasing the Cayman through is partnered with Ed & Al's autosounds and they don't seem to be very knowledgable about the Dension (i.e. they told it wasn't for sale in the US, not warrantied, etc)

POST 8Original post

playlists the only problem i have heard that may be a big deal for some is the dension unit only allows a few playlists and that is the only way to access the music (meaning you have to pre-program your playlists on the ipod before you put in in the car and you are limited to a few of them only)...the navtv unit allows access to everything from playlists to artists, etc, but is buggy in that it only renders pages with 20 lines at a time and takes forever to reload the next page...for those with small amounts of music either works great but for those with thousands of items the navtv may be a better choice particularly when they fix the loading bug!

POST 9Original post

Dave, the dension unit allows full access. CD 1-4 are your first four playlists (either you can number them or it's takes the first four alphabetically), cd 5 plays full library, cd6 gives you access to artists, albums, songs, your other playlists, etc.

POST 10Original post

You previously made the same exact comments about the Dension in this thread . I posted a reply in that thread which clarified how the Dension unit actually works. Suneet has done the same again in this thread. Hopefully this will be sufficient to set the record straight. You can also read the Dension Users manual that I linked in the other thread.

POST 11Original post

scrolling? hi, thanks...but to clarify what kind of scrolling problems are there in CD5 for rendering playlists, artists, songs etc on the PCM screen? do they exist with dension? if so, can you scroll back and forth with dension (which you can't do with navtv), and is there a delay when scrolling...and if so, how long!? ;-)

POST 12Original post

Dave, My Dension kit is arriving today but my Cayman S is still another month or so away. If you do not get the answers you seek here, I encourage you to read and/or post to this ******** thread . Similar questions have been posted and responded to and the OP has been good at answering questions on the unit. The referenced thread is now 17 pages long, contains lots of good data, and continues to grow daily.
