Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

We are putting a rear main seal in my buddies 997 GT3. I cannot find anywhere , the procedure for how deep the seal should be set. I am assuming because, you just press it in with the factory tool. I have a decent aftermarket tool, and have the seal pushed in just below flush, which is about 5-6 mm below the crank flange. I am willing to buy the factory tool ($ wholy cow ) , but was hoping to get this back together for the weekend . I have the info for the non gt3 motors, at 13 mm. Does not look like it is even possible to go in that far. The one we removed was in there crooked, so I could not even take an accurate measurement off that one . Any advice appreciated. Even if someone has a pic of one installed, so I could get a decent idea. I am pretty confident that I will have no leaks where I am at now, but would like to do it right . Thanks
