Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Have just bought my first Porsche (2003 C4S) and must admit to being completely over excited. However, I have a question regarding the stereo. It comes up with 'PROTECT' when I turn it on but won't let me enter any code and I can't find a code in the handbook. Can anybody shed any light on this? Can I fix myself? If it needs to go back to a dealer (bought privately) how much should they charge for this? Thanks in advance!

POST 2Original post

It doesn't have a code. The dealer reset's it by plugging in the diagnostic tool. If it's a new car to you and you go to the OPC and tell them that you intend using them for service, you should be able to cheek them into doing it for you.

POST 3Original post

Are you sure it doesn't have a code? My 2002 C4S's stereo came with a small card which had the serial number & 4 digit security code on it :?

POST 4Original post

My 03 Targa didn't have one - which was confirmed by OPC Tonbridge. It may be the difference between the CD22 and the CD23 units.

POST 5Original post

2002 = cdr 22 = code card 2003 = cdr 23 = most technology ecu needs to recognoise cdr 23 = porsche piwis ( laptop) to tell it that its there

POST 6Original post

I was messing about with my CDR23 when tring how to figure out what/how to upgrade to a new satnav. During my messing about I disconnected the radio - on reconnection, I missed the small yellow connector on the back of the radio head. On switch on it came up with the 'protect' message you are describing. My OPC reconnected the yellow plug that I missed and the radio sprang into life. You can get the tool to pull the radio out from ebay for a few pounds. Hope your problem is as straightforward as mine!
