Stuck on trying to choose the right colour combination without blowing the budget.
Carmine Red (and even Guards Red) are my fav but I don't think I'd want such a stand out colour on a long term basis, not sure.
My current 987 is Silver, ideally would want a different colour
I do like the standard 20 inch Spot wheels.
Don't have a garage so looking mainly for colour that stays clean most.
In other words, looks like best candidates are Aventurine Green and Jet Black so far - any thoughts?
Do you think the below would look great in real life?
Any recommendations from owners?

Out of these 3 I would take the bottom one. Not feeling the silver roll over hoops.

Nice! Colour and wheel combo looks Superb..
( Not sure if it's the photo or angle of the car making it look a bit tail high ? )

Great car! And those are satin platinum wheels, right? not silver. I wonder what silver would look like instead.
Does it look clean for long?
I have a 991 GTS which I bought in Lava Orange then after a couple of years had sprayed Graphite Blue Metallic and then a year on (last month) had it sprayed Averuntine Green. It looks great. Grey in some lights and hardly green at all, then green in sunshine and barely grey. It's a discreet colour but still interesting.

What's a typical cost to spray in those colours it if you don't mind the question.

Not mine, might I add. But I am a fan of the colour and it's what I mostly spec whilst playing with the configurator. Yes, I think those are satin platinum wheels. If i was in the market for a GTS4.0, this would be the colour for sure. Any day over jet black.

100% this. I’ve had enough black cars, including my recent 981 Boxster, to realise that black is a pain to keep looking clean. But when clean, it’s lovely, or wear the muck with a badge of honour; these cars are for driving
I wouldn’t normally go fo an all-black (body, roof, wheels, interior) car again, but what about black (if you like a bucket and sponge) plus a contrast roof like red.
Also, don’t forget interior colour choice. All black is too obvious. If you go for that green, which is nice and different, it would go great with a half sand/black interior...
Finally, I suggest lighter silver wheels contrast better with these darker colours.
Regardless, enjoy the process!
read you own posts then choose red.
1: Carmine Red (and even Guards Red) are my fav. Choose that then !
2: Don't have a garage so looking mainly for colour that stays clean most. Not black then !!
3: In other words, looks like best candidates Jet Black. er see above !
Wow green with sand interior, I really would very much like that myself.
I really mean it, first time I have considered changing my current Boxster in years .
May I ask the cost please, I would prefer manual, heated seats , sports exhaust, sport tail pipe and full leather.

What about agate? One of my favourite Porsche colours
I looked at a few Agate's in the dealership - 911 and Macan they had in that colour. Looked dull to me to be honest, but maybe on 718 with the right wheels it could leave a different impression?

Guards Red or Carmine Red (+£1658) ?
I like both on pictures/videos, but can't figure out what they would like on 718 GTS in real life.
Also how practical these colours are for frequent driving, including parking in not most secure places.

Nearly 6k at Iain Litchfields' place at Tewkesbury.
I saw your GTS on Instagram but didn’t realise it was your old car. Is the respray a full paint job or the PPF spray he does?
GT Silver for me. Park anywhere and blend in fairly easily. Any black will be a nightmare to keep clean as already stated.
The green does look good though.

It's the PPS that he does, he does all the door shuts and jams and you d never know , until you open the front hood...it 's still orange underneath.

stealthy black all the way.
PS no replies from doomdayers saying Black is terrible to maintain. All colours are. Just that black is perhaps 20% more effort. It is not like all other colours are immune from dirt and a breeze to keep looking immaculate.

That's my car. My last three cars have been black. As others have said: black cars are only ever clean for the 5 minutes after you cleaned them but they look amazing for those 5 minutes. I absolutely love AG - very subtle yet interesting (changes shade depending on light) but stays clean. And yes: satin platinum wheels - allegedly prone to chipping but haven't experienced it yet,
I am now not sure about AG - for some reason can't picture myself wanting to drive it often.
How about GT Silver with the 20 inch Carrera Sport wheels? I believe those wheels are silver too.
I wanted to avoid silver because my current 987 is silver but... it's a great colour which is bright and classic, stays clean for long but also not too much in your face, no?
I'm opting for standard black interior with some alcantara bits and black brushed alluminium trim. Get 3 shades of black inside, and a bit of a standard plastic silver - not a lot of room to be creative with the standard interior.
Edited by stewieyan on Wednesday 16th December 22:04
The easiest shades for looking good without constant washing are silvers, paler greys and possibly Aventurine Green, which is grey/green.
GT Silver and Platinum for the wheels is a very low maintenance, great looking scheme. I had Rhodium/Platinum/Black leather on a 981 I had for a while and it was very easy to look after.
If I was ordering a new car today, I would give AG very serious consideration.

Urban myth
Not a myth if it's true - and one of my cars is black, before you ask.
Shows pollen and dust in summer, watermarks when it rains and grime/salt in winter.
Washed and polished it looks great, but it doesn't last.
The silver one above with the fat-spoked carerra silver alloys looks very smart and very Porsche. But with the black + dark red interior. And red roof if you want to break up the colour outside and make it look like one of the previous-gen specials

Had 4 cars in black, so have the experiences to back it up. My agate grey Cayman is much better in this respect though.

The problem is that the red non full alcantara interior doesn’t allow alcantara steering wheel (which I like). Plus it adds much more leather which I’d rather avoid. This model is not the best in terms of options available.

I disagree, I think it's one of the most configurable cars they've done. You can have it very alcantara/GTS or full leather/luxury, very Jekyll or Hyde, along with the sportier suspension options or more comfort based.
I think buying used in the future will be even more of a nightmare than usual given the huge range of options available.

stewieyan - I’d simultaneously love and hate spec’ing it from new! I’d probably end up ordering 5 through indecision
Twinfan - most cars tend to be very safe/resale spec’d. Finding anything interesting or individual is a big problem. So many cars are purely monochrome. Porsches suit silver as they are understated and very nicely sculpted, but vive la différence!
At least when buying second-hand, you very quickly know if the spec works for you.
Oh true, I agree on a general level. However if you really want a particular combo e.g. BOSE and full leather with a reversing camera then you may struggle even to find that combination straight away. On other cars you get a small number of packs which make things a lot easier.

Most people will spec GTS pack , and bose and camera on the GTS I would say.
non GTS pack cars will not sell well down the line.
daft colours will be rare. loads of cars for sale atm all nice spec for £72k lesser specs start with a 6.
From what we've seen here on PH, the GTS pack doesn't seem that popular this time around. This isn't a GTS car as we've seen in the past, I see it more of its own model. I think Porsche do too, hence the huge range of options available to make the car what you want it to be.
It’s an interesting one. I kind of see the 718 4.0 GTS as a slightly larger capacity 981 3.4 GTS, or even a highly-spec’d 3.4 “S”.
The major change between 981 and 714, as far as I can see, was the switch to turbo 4 cylinders. Now that’s no longer the case with the 4.0, is it more of a facelift over the previous 3.4.
Perhaps people will cite the steering feel improvement. But has anybody driven a 2016 981 GTS against the first 718’s? I have more than a sneaking suspicion that the steering software and mechanicals were continuously improved over the 981 lifecycle.
I’ve never driven an early 981 or early 714, so could be speaking out of my hat.
I owned an April 2016 981 GTS, one of the last produced, and have driven a couple of 718 loaners. The steering of the 718 is faster/quicker and a little heavier or feelsome. But only a bit. The difference is more in the speed of response to small movements.
I personally preferred the slower rack of the 981 as it was less sensitive, the feel/weight difference was negligable.

s
t vs s
t though so not great.
Wow, the 718 Boxster (and Cayman for that matter) really are belting looking cars.
Whatever colour you get, it'd be criminal not to have one of those lovely non-black leather interiors. The red looks great

Interesting. Feels spot-on (981, 2015) to me. I get sufficient feedback, it’s a good weight, it doesn’t tramline or get bounced off line, very natural ratio, feels special enough.
I’m sure older Porsches have much more “talkative” steering, but many cars did. They were also hard, or even dangerous, to drive in bad weather. I’d rather lose 10% in absolute feedback on the road and be much safer 100% of the time.
To each their own and I’m new to this brand so may be seen as naive. But just calling it s*** or similar is doing it a massive disservice.
Reminds me of the same line with Aston’s Sport Shift transmission.

Not facts - your (latest) OPINION which as usual is 180 degrees opposite from a few weeks ago when you were about to buy one. And please stop saying everything is s**t - at least find a better way of expressing your OPINION or if that’s impossible perhaps just don’t post.

The steering may not be to 911Rs taste but it's not unusable. It's the same old diatribe from the forum's most vociferous moaner.
I found myself near the Central London dealer this evening which had an Aventurine Green 718 and a Lava Orange 718 GTS 4.0 in the showroom. I picked up my Carrara White GTS 4.0 a month ago. I spent ages wondering if I made the right decision. I think on balance I did *for me*.
I did not get the apparently (on here) compulsory GTS pack because I totally and utterly detest Alcantara. It is vile. In my opinion. I cannot believe people actually pay money for more of this stuff. My bitter regret is not spotting I had forgotten to remove it from the A pillars and roof. I wanted it nowhere to be seen. The dealer telling me this is a £900 option on the 911 after it was too late to remove it did not make me feel better. So to read comments that cars won't sell because they don't have this material interior or that? I am not in a position to judge. But different people like different things. Porsche are to be applauded for giving people such a choice. So many wonderful cars are posted on here from people who have made their choices. Every single one looks different.
Aventurine Green is a stunning choice and to my eyes better than black, but all you can do is narrow it down, sleep on it and then go with your instinct.

I'm glad it's not just me! Other opinions are available, but I too loathe alcantara. Leather; love it, the more the better. Porsche should offer a "Replace Every Bit Of Alcantara With Leather" pack as an option.

I agree with you on the Alcantara. I hate the stuff. I don’t like the look of it, to me it looks cheap, but even more I can’t stand the feel of it.
So I removed every trace of from my car and very glad I did.

I'm another who wouldn't buy a GTS with alcantara, even my Boxster Black Edition had a full leather interior.......to join the Jet Black vs Aventurine Green debate, I wouldn't have another Porsche with Jet Black paintwork, it was the softest paint of any car I've ever owned, chipped and scratched at the slightest thing, even gentle washing.

Loved my GT Silver with Carrera Sports
Am also thinking of getting one of these, although I haven't checked availability of build slots lately.
If I do go for it, Aventurine will definitely be my choice with dark coloured wheels and black interior.
Have fun choosing.

How's this? (Quick snap in garage)
I’m defo missing something. I had a black 911 and then 981 boxster and honestly never noticed this ‘instantly dirty’ phenomenon. I’m in the urban myth camp on this one. I would however say I wouldn’t go for it again on a Boxster as you lose some of the shape definition particularly on the sides.

I doubt a urban myth. Depends where you live maybe. Straight on to a road where I live and filthy in 2 mins with dead bugs and grime. This is after a few days of pretty normal weather maybe bit of light rain nothing more.
It's no myth. I have a black car for almost 20 years and it is sensitive. Once washed you drive one or two miles and the dust is already there.
Not that it's dirty but it is noticable. God forbid you touch it or wipe it. There are swirls in a second.
The Jet Black paint on my 981 Boxster was possibly the softest paint I've ever had on a car, only had to look at it and swirls and scratches developed. Think it was even scratched with mega clean microfibre cloths.
On the other hand the Obsidian Black (metallic black like Jet Black) paintwork on my C63 was tough as nails, and it was a daily too, I wouldn't buy another Jet Black Porsche.

That looks amazing! My 992 in Aventurine has just completed build, I've not even seen the colour in the flesh!
You're going to love it. Here's a pic from last October when I was getting some work done at Elite Car Care and there was a AG 992 in the opposite bay.

There's an Av' Green 992 C4 at Porsche Wolverhampton currently, with brown club leather and and 5-spoke exclusive design wheels..
They were moving it around the showroom when I visited recently and it looked absolutely superb. Probably my favourite current Porsche colour, despite being a die-hard 'red car fan' (though I do think Guards Red suits the new cars less and less unforunately..)
Love the Aventurine met green. I'm waiting for availability with allocation to order. Thinking of Aventurine w Black interior. Choosing brushed aluminum dash inserts. Hadn't considered the safety rollover bars in aluminum finish until I saw your pic. Did you end up going w that choice?
Would it accent the interior inserts or clash?

Thanks for the kind words! The car makes me smile all the time - both looking at and driving (although there hasn't been nearly enough driving recently what with winter weather and lock down.)
I just picked mine up. Love AG and felt the car looked better with satin platinum alloys so had them painted prior to collection.

Think anyone who has had a black car would disagree!
Definitely not an urban myth. Sometimes you have barely packed away the pressure washer and the car is already dusty. Even as someone who loves washing their car, this will probably be my first and last black one.
I'm really torn on jet black, on one hand I think the gloss really accentuates the curves, but it also hides some of the lines. I love the line from the side vent along the door but it's so hard to see on black cars.
Black wasn't my first choice of colour but the car was otherwise pretty much perfect.

Car looks sensational but as you say , Black never stays clean for long and that's my experience too . Is it any better under PPF I wonder ?
My brother in law sold his brand new 997 in Guards Red a few weeks after delivery. He said he was fed up with comments about it being pink.
I never really got this until I went to Reading OPC just before dusk and a couple of GR cars had indeed turned pink in the late afternoon light.
For this reason you may want to consider Carmine but for best to keep clean it has to be a silver.
I'd never go black again.
Aventurine may be a good dirt colour?
I've got a Guards Red 997 at present it's OK for hiding the grime! Previous car was a Seal Grey 997 and that was even better at hiding the grime.
Family car is a Black BMW and keeping it clean looking is quite dispiritiing! I always sid I wouldn't have Black but the BMW was a bargain and ultra low mileage so...

I’d say yes with PPF. Have had a lot of black cars and new to me GT4 has PPF, noticably easier to keep clean for longer
