@npilling - I have disconnected my air mass sensor in the past to identify a fault although my flat spot was higher up the rev range (5K) than yours, and mine didn't show an error either - I think the ECU reverts to basic map with it disconnected.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Followin some advice received on the forum and some ideas of my own, I decided to do some investigations, so disconnected the air mass meter. The car doesn't seem to run much differently with it disconnected, so I suspect the hesitation is caused by a faulty meter. Strangely though I get no engine warning lights as a result of the disconnection. Has anyone else tried this? I am starting to wonder whether the engine management system may be at fault if it cant recognise an air meter fault.

POST 2Original post

@npilling - I have disconnected my air mass sensor in the past to identify a fault although my flat spot was higher up the rev range (5K) than yours, and mine didn't show an error either - I think the ECU reverts to basic map with it disconnected. Maybe your hesitation is classic turbo lag? - do you have an x50 performance kit on it by any chance these are renowned for lag lower down the rev range.. - Simon

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, is is an S version so has larger turbos, but I don't believe that is the issue, as the hesitation occasionally clears, usually after a good motorway run.

POST 4Original post

If its not Lag --I'm sure its nothing more than one of the usual suspects - Air Mass Sensor - Lazy Variocam Solenoid (s) - These can be checked when its rigged up to the diagnostic - Fuel (are you using 98RON and do you consistently use this) Coils Plugs Best get it checked out by a local Indy specialist if you are not under warrantly from OPC - Simon
