Hello. Last week I wandered upon a
Cayman S
with 5k miles on a
Toyota
used car lot (what ???) and so I bought it. I had been going through withdrawls because last year I traded in my previous longtime sports car (
BMW
M3) for a truck. Now I am back in a real drivers car again, and life is good. Anyway, there are a couple of things that don't work on the car, and the nearest dealer is 60 miles away. Maybe someone here can give me some troubleshooting tips.
1)
Homelink
does not work. I'm not talking about the programing piece. I've programed these things before. However, no amount of button pushing will cause the
led
to light. The key is on and the fog lights are off just like the manual suggests. I looked through the fusebox map for an associated fuse, but there is no mention of a
Homelink
fuse. Any ideas?
2) The right rear fog lamp does not work. I removed the bulb, but the bulb is fine. I checked the wires that provide 12v to the bulb, and there does not seem to be any voltage to this one side when the switch is on. The fuse for this lamp also powers several other lamps that work fine.
3) The base stereo sucks! This seems to be consistent with German cars. My M3 stereo was lousy. Last week my wife was driving a beat up Pontiac Sunfire loaner car while her RX8 was in getting a bumper boo boo fixed. The stereo in that piece of junk put my Cayman stereo to shame! I'll be watching this forum to see if anyone swaps out their speakers or adds a subwoofer.
congrats.
the
homelink
is a pain to get working. just search
homelink
on this site and the exact way to get it done will show up in previous forums.
the fog light will be covered at the dealer, i would just take it in.
Re rear fog light take a look at the sticky in the complaints section or the faq's (clue - there is only one rear fog light).
Re
homelink
are you pointing the control at the proper place on the front bumper (search here for instructions).
Rear sub woofer/speakers again do a search to see what has been done already.
THERE IS NO RIGHT REAR FOG LIGHT!
The rear fog light is LEFT side only, per German engineering specs. Your car is operating correctly.
As for
Homelink
I would reset the
Homelink
system and try again.
BTW, was this car Speed yellow? In which case I think the former owner was Rick Longano and you can find his previous registration of the car in the registry. I seem to recall him trading it in at a
Toyo
dealer...
Duhh. Thanks everyone for not calling me a moron! I am working my way through the manual, but I missed this one.
I am not getting this far. I am guessing that I should see the interior led blink when I push one of the buttons, but it does not blink. I also tried holding down the 1 & 3 buttons to clear the programing as the manual suggests, but no amount of holding the buttons will get the led to flash. It's as if there is no power to the Homelink system, and that is why I was checking fuses.

RPM, I frequent St. Augustine and Palm Coast, perhaps one day we can meet up with some other local drivers and do the
scenic drive along A1A upto Guana State Park.

I haven't heard the sound package plus sound system but the
Bose system
sounds much better than the
Harman Kardon
in my previous M3.
Suneet,
A drive up A1A would be great.
I'm curious to learn if the local chapters of the Porsche club (either POC or PCA) are active. I have been to one POC driving event at Homestead (
BMW
Club members were permitted to join POC events), and I went to one of their evening events in Orlando when they had David Hobbs come in for a talk. I will be joining soon for the driving events (as soon as I can figure out which club to join).
Crown's very active in the Jacksonville area, but that's quite a bit North of you. Hour and a half away from me, but it's where I fall in. - Suneet
