Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi all, So, I have removed my center console with the idea of painting it Atlas Grey to match the exterior. Not sure yet if I will paint it myself or have a shop do it, but I thought I would try and do the prep work myself. Would like to hear from anyone who has done this how best to tackle the soft touch paint. Can it just be sanded and primed, or does it need to be removed? I have heard something about rubbing alcohol to remove it, but not sure if that is true. Any advise from those who have done it would be very much appreciated. Many Thanks,

POST 2Original post

Hi, I have plans to do the same, but my car is Seal Grey. I haven't done it yet, but I've been researching. All the soft touch material must be removed, or it will undermine the paint applied. How you remove it is up to you. There is the chemical method, which is a bit gooey and messy. Rubbing alcohol will work, or citrus paint stripper. There is the mechanical/ sanding method. What you sand with is also up to you. You could use sand paper, or a drill with a paint stripping wheel. FWIW, I plan on using a stripping wheel, and then cleaning, prepping, priming, painting and clear coating. I hope this helps, and good luck!

POST 3Original post

Thanks for the response Jason. I will start with the rubbing alcohol and see how it goes.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
