Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, I need to replace the front brakes on my car. I'm pretty sure I'll get original discs as replacements but was wondering about pad options. I will track it once or twice a year so the priority is road use. The original Porsche pads seem to cost about 40% more than most other options, I believe textar are the OEM anyway? So, I don't want squealing or higher than normal disc wear, is there a good road biased option to the originals, a tad more bite would be appreciated overall. Secondly, how likely is it hat the shims need replacing, or is this just something I won't find out until the old parts come off? Finally, any recommendations for where to purchase? best price I can see so far is Eurocarparts!

POST 2Original post

and Eurocarparts will probably be proving OEM pads which are fine

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

well, rightly or wrongly In got all from Eurocarparts and went for the OEM stuff (or what they refer to as OEM) which is all made in Germany and ATE branded discs and pads. The quality to my eyes is excellent and compared to the rusted , worn out crap that came off a vast improvement! Gave it a few road miles last night to bed them in a bit and I can't fault the performance so far. ECP do have a Porsche branded disc at £50 each more, and as the service guy at my OPC said, "you do pay a lot for a box with Porsche written on it" I would imagine Porsche have various OEM's anyway?

POST 4Original post

If you don't fit shims on the front your brakes will squeal. In addition, you'll find that the handling through the steering wheel is a little unbalanced at low speeds

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

new shims & sensors went in at the same time. No noise so far.
