Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

And secondly, can anyone recommend the best way to get an iPod connected as the current iPOD FM transmitter makes it sound more like i'm listening to vinyl rather that digital quality.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Even early 997 which were advertised as having TMC did not work in the UK until an upgrade was sorted..

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've recently bought an 04 C4S 996 and just have a couple of questions on the PCM. Is it possible to upgrade this to include the traffic function? I'm getting mixed stories on this. And secondly, can anyone recommend the best way to get an iPod connected as the current iPOD FM transmitter makes it sound more like i'm listening to vinyl rather that digital quality. Any comments really appreciated.

POST 2Original post

I am unaware of any upgrade to put Traffic info onto a PCM2. Best iPod solution I found was to go to the Dension Gateway 500 which integrates with the MOST optical bus the PCM2 is connected to. Also allows you to add Bluetooth phone support which I have not done yet but am going to look at. Info here: http://www.dension.com/icelinkgateway500.php

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the info, looks good. I think the problem is that I have the PCM1 and hence no upgrade available for traffic. Will the Gateway 500 work with the PCM1, does it have the MOST optical connections? The bluetooth connectivity for the phone would be great as I haven't got the patience to start putting my numbers into the phonebook....

POST 4Original post

an 04 should have PCM2 not PCM1. Does the SIM card holder for the phone take just the SIM card or the SIM card in a credit card sized holder? If the later it is PCM1 otherwise it is the original PCM2 aka PCM2 with CD Text.

POST 5Original post

If the PCM2 is set up for TMC, then it could be upgraded- it is simply (!) a matter of finding a nav-disc which has the codes on. It was always very easy with BMWs, but not sure that you will get the upgrade from an OPC. You may have to find out who makes the nav discs for Porsche, and find a compatible car- Vauxhall/Opel ring a bell for some reason.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It is just the SIM card, I had been given the impression that the PCM2 was just in the 997 (from a 997 driver).

POST 7Original post

A definite way to check is to hold Main+Info down at the same down and it will provide PCM version, software serial infor etc.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Whilst the manual shows the traffic option, on the PCM it doesn't, so it may not be a matter of upgrading, it looks like it's just not set up for it.

POST 9Original post

You definitely have PCM 2 which was from Facelift, e.g. 2002 IIRC. PCM 2.1 - the DVD based system is only available in the 997

POST 10Original post

PCM1- Tape slot PCM2- CD slot PCM2.1 (997) CD slot with MP3 and external DVD sat Nav all could have the SIM card slot, PCM1 was only O2 and Vodaphone where PCM was all bands. PCM2 does have TMC but NOT for the UK as PorscheUK would not buy the licence, it does however work perfectly well in Europe. Even early 997 which were advertised as having TMC did not work in the UK until an upgrade was sorted.. garyw

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all, at least that answers my question. So if I want TMC, I either get a 997 or move to europe

POST 12Original post

I wonder if Porsche will continue to supply upgrade discs for PCM2, given than the 997 is DVD... after all they stopped upgrades for PCM1.

POST 13Original post

With talk of a new PCM3 in the facelift, everyone will be asking the question.. garyw
