A friend of mine hooked me up with his plenum and tb from his
Cayman s
3.4 after he upgrade to iPd .
he also installed a
bmc filter
and de-snorked the intake and also painted my Side vents in semi gloss.
the install was not easy and it took us two days to finally get all done.the car drive amazing and feels like it pull much harder and no more of that dead spot below 4000 rpm.i ca not believe the difference.i highly recommend this performance upgrade to anyone with the 2.7 engine .it transformed my car.no Dyno was done, but it's a lot more fun to drive and much faster and sounds better.
Glad you're happy Ken!
I did the factory 987 S 74mm intake plenum and throttle body install on Ken's 2.7
Boxster
. The install threw us a couple up a couple of roadblocks but nothing that was too big of a deal. Now that I have done it once I would say it can be done within a couple of hours by a decent mechanic. The
IPD plenum
install on my
Cayman S
was much easier, it is a tighter squeeze getting this plenum on the 2.7. I follow the DIY install guide that is in the Articles section. The biggest thing you need to know is that you need to buy some 4" to 3.5" silicone reducers. Preferably these would only be around 45mm (roughly 1.75") long but that proved impossible to find. So we ended purchasing these 76mm long (3") 4" to 3.5" silicone reducers off
Amazon
and cutting them down to size.
https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Pe...B00CB21YKK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1470665811&sr=8-1&keywords=4"+to+3.5"+reducer
. Once you get these reducers cut down to size you will want to clamp the 3.5" side down to the intake manifolds on each side. At this point you can slip the ends of the new plenum down into the 4" side of the coupler. The couplers are a little loose on the plenum but once you clamp them down they seal fine and do not produce a vacuum leak. Using a 4" to 3.5" silicone reducer was the ONLY way I found that would work for mating the new plenum to the 2.7 intake manifolds.
I believe this is a very worthwhile upgrade for the 2.7 or 2.9 base engines, probably even more so than upgrading to a GT3 plenum on the 3.4. The car pulls very strong all the way through the powerband with no dead spot. It actually keeps up with my Cayman S with the GT3 plenum and throttle body on the highway until we get into the upper RPMs.
To summarize the parts that you need to complete this upgrade on a 2.7:
3.4 "S" 74 mm Intake Plenum - 987 110 416 01
3.4 "S" 74mm Throttle Body - 997 605 115 01
Throttle Body Seal (
only needed if you buy the plenum and throttle body separately
) - 997 110 319 00
4" to 3.5" Silicone Reducers -

(
if you can find a 4" to 3.5" reducer that is shorter in length, preferably 1.75" please post a link to it as this will save you from having to cut these down to size
)
What about a
GT3
TB and such on the 2.9? Or is the
Gt3
TB too large for the 2.9?
I can see the value in this mod if the 3.4 parts are relatively cheap but if you are going to spend the money, wouldn't jumping straight to the
GT3
stuff offer an even greater improvement?
It should also be noted that the 3.4 plenum and throttle body can be fitted to a 2.9 but you need the DFI 3.4 plenum and throttle body from a 2009-2012
Cayman
/
Boxster S
. These plenums are shaped differently so the silicone reducers do not apply.
Hello Kboustani,
Glad the plenum,
BMC filter
and de-snorked worked well for you.
We have done similar modifications to our 2.7
Cayman
.
May I suggest our DREAM2 to further increase the enjoyment of your 2.7
Cayman
.
Please visit our website for more specifics:

New clamps and step by step installation instructions with pictures are included.
We have DREAM2's in stock for immediate delivery.
Jim D. Loving
B C Velocity Exhaust
thanks jim,but i had done the dream 1 before my upgrades and i installed the
porsche
dual tip sport
exhaust
.i love that upgrade,by itself it made a big difference in performance and sound.
Hello Kboustani,
You and I are on the same page. When I developed the DREAM1 in 2008 I installed the first one on our 2007 2.7
Cayman
and added the
Porsche
dual tips.
(the
Porsche
dual tips cost more than the DREAM1)
You are correct it makes a great sound combination.
Have a great week.
Jim
