Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My favorite YT channel finally got an M96 to tear down and while he gets some stuff a little wrong, it's a good look into the inside of an M96. You Tube

POST 2Original post

Love this channel as well. For some reason these teardowns are just mesmerizing.

Agree 100%, something cathartic about it and the dude is funny. Was bummed he didn't take the bottom end apart but his reasoning seems pretty sound. Someone just needs to send him one thats smoked. I crave the carnage.

POST 4Original post

thx for the link - always great stuff on that channel. including his own 996 repair vids.

I have enough carnage in my own garage.

So he never got to the IMSB? I thought he would just for sh*ts and giggles.

When he found that the intake cam was no longer turning with the crank, he assumed that was the whole of the problem and concluded that the short block is in good heath, and stopped. Seems reasonable enough.

POST 9Original post

Well, he did get to disassemble the block this time but he did not conclude what the original problem was that started the bearing destruction.

In the vid while tearing it down, he grabbed the #6 rod iirr, and moved it up and down & side to side with the crank totally stationary and said "yup, thats the rod knock". so that must of been 1 of the complaints/problems..? Then after taking off the oil filter canister and finding no filter, he later said owner (maybe owners tech imo) found the filter full of metal and condemned the engine. And rightly so, with this tear down proving it. He also said he'd been driving the car for 2 week before he torn it down.... Moral of the story, when you have a 'little knock' here and there, and filter comes out full of metallic debris, this is what your crank might look like. Probably If you keep driving the car, imo, you'll sooner than later throw a rod. Really only 1 thing that usually does this on m96, PT3 explained that in above post....

POST 12Original post

I understand there are sump plates that can help with this... Please! Protect your engines if you are going to track!

With all the info that is easily available on the Net these days, you would think that anyone who was going to the Track would know this !!! SMFH ....
