If you look in the parts catalog for your car it will show the drain and fill plugs, from that you can size the adapters you would need.

The oil cooler doesn't have the thermostats but the other run over 200-210 F after a 20 min session.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello,
As I've started to track my
Cayman
R more, as a preventative measure, I'd like to install a
PDK
cooler. Where can I acquire a cooler? Looks like several people have had them installed, but all the shops appear to be on the East coast, while I am on the West coast. Ideas?
Thanks,
DJM
I Lemon,
I've searched around in the forums quite a bit, but was unable to find a thread where someone was able to buy a
PDK
cooler directly, only those who had shops to the install for them. If you can find a link, that would be most appreciated.
Cheers,
DJM
Once you start tracking you will find that one of the main culprits for the
PDK
overheating is actually the LSD, in addition to OAT and air density. Look for my thread on this including pics.
Actually, I've read your entire thread about the
PDK
cooler you had installed. But from what I could ascertain in that thread, it is not possible to buy the cooler as you needed to 'prove' to your dealer that you are having over heating problems. I'd like to preemptively install a cooler which is why I was inquiring where I might purchase a unit for a DIY, or perhaps a west coast shop that does installs.
Thanks,
DJM
Its not a
PDK
cooler, its a LSD cooler. And this was years ago when
Porsche
still denied the fact that the R's had an overheating issue on the track. Since then
Porsche
themselves has encountered it and fixed the cooling issue on the 981s. Contact napleton who developed this cooler as stated. But be prepared to fork over $$$$$$.
Amdeutsch, thanks for the correction. I'll contact Napleton and see about the price.
I did find that TPC now has a kit:
http://www.tpcracing.com/pdk-aux-cooler-kit.html
I wonder how that compares to napleton unit both in functionality and price? From your thread Amdeutsch, the napleton system looked pretty slick.
I know that BGB Motorsports offer a kit as well, but I can not find much information about it
Thanks,
DJM
I evaluated the TPC unit on my 2009
Cayman S
PDK
TPC turbo car and in the end, I just bought an OTC Setrab unit and had custom Aeroquip lines made to complete the installation, all for under $200. It works very well.
I have also been looking OTC coolers as well; I was unsure of what line end fittings I'd need to mate to the gear box. Can you assist with some details of which Setrab unit you bought, and some details of the fittings on the Aeroquip lines? Did you add an electric pump as well?
Thanks,
DJM
DJM,
If you look in the parts catalog for your car it will show the drain and fill plugs, from that you can size the adapters you would need. British American Transfer has an extensive selection of adapters. I show my approach to cooling my 5 speed trans axle here:

Rob, the link to your article is most helpful -- great detail!
I've looked at the parts catalog for my R online; I am able to find the transmission drain plug part easily enough, but there is no technical information about the part. Is there a parts catalog that is more detailed? I found the drain plug here:

DJM,
I guess they treat the
PDK
as a line replaceable unit. What you want are the differential drain and fill plugs. What your link shows seems to be an oil pan rather than the differential. You might go to your dealer and buy the differential fill and drain plugs. That is what I did. The dealer should have a better parts break down than we can see.
Rob
I don't know if it will help with your search, or answer your question, but you might try looking at

Thanks for the link -- much useful info. Heavy research mode now -- I plan to do this mod during fall winter when the track fun winds down for the season.

I had three cooling systems installed in my 09
Caymans
S used exclusively for DE's. They were both the differential and transmission plus an oil cooler (LN mentioned above). The Diff and Trany have seperate radiators located in the front radiator. They also have thermostats inside the cabin. The oil cooler doesn't have the thermostats but the other run over 200-210 F after a 20 min session. I added a couple of portable fans to cool the radiator after each session. You can watch the temps drop.
These systems were installed by SSI in Baltimore, MD. I highly recommend Sloan Paliti to do the work. I saw many of these installations at during a DE at Pitt Race. I trailed my car from Akron OH to Baltimore to have SSI do the work. Car ran great this past season. If you value the life of your
Cayman
while driving it hard, it worth the money.
