Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've purchased Bosch items from Amazon before and they were all genuine and one item, a MAF, was successfully replaced via Bosch's own warranty.

Cant comment on the BMW part, but prior to knowing that there was a BMW part, and after cleaning my ICV with no success I purchased one of the $25 Chinese ones and its worked well.

When you replace it with the correct new gasket it is much easier to clean off from mating parts than anything rtv silicone based.

Apart from that, I recommend Elring Curil T2 on your original gasket.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

By the way, try smoke testing your motor with the throttle plate closed; we unlucky idle air control valve equipped owners might notice a steady, thin plume of smoke coming from hairline cracks in the valve's plastic body."
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
just stumbled upon this on Reddit, though this info may help some people here (all credit goes to the Reddit poster):
"Below is just a cost-savings for a hard-to-find part:
For the 1998-2000 build-year 911, the Idle Air Control Valve is part number 99660616001, and it costs about 500 shipped with tax. The Bosch equivalent (they're the manufacturer of the Porsche-branded part), is 0280140572. It's discontinued, but it was 190 shipped after tax.
There is a BMW part, 13411435846, which is physically identical. It's 300 shipped after tax The Bosch-equivalent part is 0280140575. It's 170 shipped after tax.
I dissected the Porsche and BMW parts, and they have the same stampings for internals: 3284010228 and 3285101311. They both have the same resistance readings: 38Ω between Pin 3 and Pin 2, and 20.7Ω between Pin 3 and Pin 1. They actuate identical, and the both seek a 800RPM idle with A/C off.
If you've got a cable-throttled 996, and it's lean or idle-hunting, you might be able to save 400 with a Bosch part out of a BMW.
By the way, try smoke testing your motor with the throttle plate closed; we unlucky idle air control valve equipped owners might notice a steady, thin plume of smoke coming from hairline cracks in the valve's plastic body."

BTW, anyone knows what I can use as a temporary replacement for an idle control valve gasket? I tore mine and can't get a new one before a week, but was hoping to enjoy the car this weekend.
Thanks for the info. Ive been wanting to replace mine due to its age but havent due to the ridiculous cost of the Porsche part.
As to your gasket, I suppose you could take some thin rubber like a jar opener grip and cut it to size/shape?
Nice find !!
As for making a gasket, a discarded soda box makes good gasket material . As a kid I made many a gasket by hand for my motorcycles from old soda cartons...You can make a perfect gasket by laying the material on top of the part and taking a ball-peen hammer tap the sharp edges to form/cut the gasket to fit perfectly.... Works well in a pinch ....
Cereal box also works for gaskets. Good hardware and auto parts stores sell rolls of gasket paper which works even better. Or use a thin wipe of silicon gasket maker - I like Reinzosil and dislike anything from Permatex. Drei Bond is even better.
Just drive it. The amount of unmetered air coming in at anything off-idle is negligible and won't hurt a thing. Should you happen to require an emissions test this weekend, only then you need to seal it.
Apart from that, I recommend Elring Curil T2 on your original gasket. When you replace it with the correct new gasket it is much easier to clean off from mating parts than anything rtv silicone based.
I ended up using plastified cardboard from frozen meat packing. I haven't started the car yet, but am confident it should last at least a few hours of running. Thanks for the comments!
it is also very easy to clean it and use it for another 20 years. On ebay you can find them for 20$, and you get a new gasket. Have a look at this video:

Looks like the BMW Bosch part is out of stock everywhere in europe. Bosch website also gives no results for that part number
https://www.bosch-home.com/us/search...rch=0280140575
it is just an idle control valve, get the chinese version and when you find bosch stock, replace it. or get the china thing and try to clean yours as shown on the video...
Amazon appears to have the genuine Bosch version for sale again, though it shows "temporarily out of stock".

Cant comment on the BMW part, but prior to knowing that there was a BMW part, and after cleaning my ICV with no success I purchased one of the $25 Chinese ones and its worked well. I purchased a Throttle Body off ebay as a silly project, but also justified it because it also has a ICV on it, so I have 2 spares now.
I ended up buying this unit from Lowe Automobil in Germany.

My car seems to run the same with no issues but Ive only put 10 miles on the new part. We will see how long term durability holds up.
Some folks in the 928 world use Lowe components with good success so I figured this was worth a short, especially for less than $50 shipped.
Take note in the pictures that the numbers embossed on the new ICV are identical to the 10+ year old Bosch/Porsche ICV that I removed.
I got one of those from maf-shop.com in Germany too,
(the idle was hunting and sometimes stalling)
Then found out my 2003 3.6 996 doesn't have one...
I just listed it in the marketplace
I would like to recover most of the cost (40 Euros) as it is brand new, and will cover shipping
