This is why the 9ff Cayman Cr42 beat all the other tuners - where they used an X51 3.8.

Suggestion

I can't comment on ruf's warranty - but they simply use a standard X51 engine in their conversions.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 5Original post

awesome...what is the labor cost forthe Cayman S Performance Kit Stage #2?

POST 6Original post

ECB, Are you telling us that the 9FF kit includes the 3.8L engine intake runners (silver) as shown in the first photo above? Or did someone simply paint the 3.4L (black and shorter) intake runners silver?

POST 7Original post

' No need to give way to the Carreras anymore!! A 340HP Cayman...exactly what you wanted - that Porsche refused to build. ' I love their marketing! OK, I' ll bite. More info Please!

POST 8Original post

thats a picture of the 350hp 355nm conversion to the 3.4ltr ,inludes camshfts ,bigger intake manifold and throttle, sports clutch ,exhaust manifold ,ss exhaust, cat mod,air filter ,ecu upgrade .

POST 9Original post

Thanks /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/thumbsup.gif

POST 10Original post

Not a fan of those "Sport Cat Converters" This means more emissions...right?

POST 11Original post

OK so for the $8,800 they are asking we get 40HP to the wheels. No internal engine work, just bolt ons???

POST 12Original post

NA engines are certainly more difficult and expensive to upgrade with bolt-on products, compared the FI engines. Similar upgrade for STi or Evo costs are $2K /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/sad_smile.gif

POST 13Original post

I know thats sucks. I'm willing to spend a few dollars to get my cayman up to level i want it but i don't want to sacrifice any reliability or cause any problems. I reallywant this carat 350 HP minimal.

POST 14Original post

Just drop a 3.8 in it and be done with it. Neil

POST 15Original post

I am waiting for the, ' K-Man S - CS Upgrade .' /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/naughty.gif

POST 16Original post

Looks very tempting. Are the Ruf upgrades legal in California, does anyone know? Presumably this would void all Porsche engine warranty at least, does Ruf make this up with their own warranty?

POST 17Original post

Neil...absolutely!. We have a 3.8L 388HP and a 4.1L 420HP motor. Unlike the X51 solution, 9ff 3.8 and 4.1L motors feature a wealth of improvements - an upgraded trackworthy oiling systems, TI con rods, Ti valves, Ported heads, oval pistons, 8800 rpm redline and many, many more technological advancements... along with a 2yr/24k mile warranty on the engine. The intake plenum is the "T" part that has the "9ff" plate on it. I can't comment on ruf's warranty - but they simply use a standard X51 engine in their conversions. This is why the 9ff Cayman Cr42 beat all the other tuners - where they used an X51 3.8. 9ff used their own 3.8L. Remember that the X51 "supposedly" adds 25HP to a carrera. Because of the caymans intake restrictions (compared to the carrera) the X51 and all motors will make less HP in the cayman. Regarding emissions...the sport cats are less restrictive but should still allow you to pass...even in CA! Edited by - ECB on 07/20/2006 08:35:51 AM

As soon as my kit arrives and is installed, I will let everyone know the differences I here and feel. Supposed to be installed shortly.

POST 19Original post

That makes two of us. So far no update on when it's going to arrive tho...

POST 20Original post

Not too shabby for $8800. The Milltek catback exhaust is $2K and headers will probably run another $2K. 9FF adds a plenum, air filter and ecu. 9FF is good stuff. I like an integrated approach and I like bolt ons. It will be interesting to see what the Miltek header/catback system will produce. I wouldn't bet any more than 20 hp. Come to think of it $4K for a Miltek header/catback system that equals 20hp and a 9FF package for $8.8K comes to about $4K for 20 hp from each manufacturer. Very interesting. I can't wait to see some actual numbers and comparisons on Cayman upgrades. They are still in their infancy. There are good times ahead.

However, 9ff incorporated the intake/plenum and then modified the exhaust. The bottomline is that now power is even greater and the kit includes a bunch of stuff. Honestly, the price is really fair when you consider you're getting a wholly engineered solution from a top german tuner - as opposed to shiny versions of the OEM stuff (from korea). All cayman powerkits from now on will be the newer design. The only downside is that center exit exhaust is no longer an option...With the newer kit, the center solution was found to be too much of a bottleneck. In true 9ff fashion, it was eliminated as it compromised performance. The upside...check out the sexy turbo look rear!! Subtle, yet aggressive - a mature statement of power. No need for wings and extra fins...
Edited by - ECB on 07/21/2006 2:57:00 PM

ECB: That looks awesome!!! Zornet and I had a cup of coffee this morning and once we get a sense that there are no significant warranty issues with our cars, with under 3k miles, we will need to talk to you.

POST 23Original post

It may be just me, but i really like the rear valance. It makes the back end look even wider with the exhaust coming out like that.

POST 24Original post

ECB, That looks awesome. I am not in the market for hp upgrades right now and prefer to wait a bit while the various mods get some time under their belts. This has got to be at the top of the list though. Just gorgeous! Do you save weight with out the center plumbing?

POST 25Original post

That is beautiful. It will be less so though with the North American spec 'bumperettes.'
