I listened to his advice and installed the Porsche version instead.

My friend just told me that B&M has test-fitted the short shifter to a Cayman and that it works 'fine.' He is a BMW guy.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am considering the short shift kit. I would appreciate feedback regarding the pros and cons of the B&M kit vs. the OEM kit, and reactions from folks how have used both..
Thanks in advance.
Gene,
I haven't used the B&M, but I ordered the sport shift on my Cayman... I finally got the peprwork I needed to get it registered in Nevada and took it out today. The factory sport shift is amazing. The throws are as short as a Miata and several full-on race cars I've driven - very positive feedback, a little stiff, but my guess is it will loosen up a llittle as it gets used. I'm very glad I ordered it.

I got talked out it by some local racers who claimed occasional missed shifts in tracking the car. As of now I think I would have ordered it and taken the chance. It will be interesting to see how brad likes it after some miles and track time.
Suncoast is advertising both B&M and OEM on their parts website. That's what got me interested in the pros and cons of B&M. You can save a couple of hundred dollars, but I am not convinced yet. I need more feedback.
Here is B&M's catalog listings for Porsche:

Notice that there is not 987 shifter yet. This is what the B&M tech guy told me when I spoke to him about 2 months ago, that they don't have one yet, and that existing ones will not work right with the 987.
I went with the EVO SS because B&M, while it would work, put the shifter knob into an 'uncomfortable' position. This is what I was told, anyway. I decided not to take the time to try it.

Now that the linkage is 'worn in' it works beautifully. Crisp, precise shifts!
David
I purchased the part from our sponsor Brandywine Porsche which currently has them on sale until the end of the month for $399 which is less than any other place I could find. I received it this last week and the dealer has it to install already. I have some photos I will post soon.
I think the mechanic at my dealership is pretty knowledgeable, andin his words the B&W short shifter is 'pretty ghetto'. Apparently they have to manually bend some of theinternal linkage to smoothe out the shifting pattern. He highly recommends going with thePorsche version rather than B&W's. I listened to his advice and installed the Porsche version instead. Love the short shifter and glad I added it..

Any updates on this? Does anybody have the B&M one andcan they offer me some advice?
My friend just told me that B&M has test-fitted the short shifter to a Cayman and that it works 'fine.' He is a BMW guy. It is $260 -- so $140 cheaper than the OEM one for $399 from Carlsen. What doyou allthink? Should I take the chance on the B&M one or just pay up for the OEM?
Edit: look how good I am, using the search function and not starting a new thread. /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/teeth_smile.gif

I went with OEM. Bought from Brandywine and installed by Carlsen.
I am a happy camper as a result.
My initial reaction was that the short shifter should be standard equipment. I can't think of a reason why one would want a long-throw shifter with the SS as an alternative. Then on second thought it dawned on me that the SS must be a nice little profit center for PAG since they must sell a ton as original installs or after purchase. We buy 'em so why give 'em away free?
I am not complaining BTW since I am very happy and recommend this mod, just what I noticed thinking it through.
