Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Please help me replace my air filter in my 1997 Boxster! I have no clue what to do. Would anyone be kind enough to take me step by step, to get through the process. I was told it should not be too difficult and a DO it yourself deal thanks

POST 2Original post

Put top down about 4 inches. Put car in service mode. Take out storage bin, take off engine cover, undo clips on airbox, pull airfilter out. Replace, and reverse directions.

POST 4Original post

Blinkwatt, That is a really helpful website. Do you have one for the 2006-2007 Boxster 987?

POST 5Original post

As far as I know 987 aren't that different from 986 because they should be similar mechanically.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thats great guys I did it today took prob 15 mins

POST 7Original post

The air filter for a 987 is an entirely different one than on a 986 so there might be a couple more steps involved in terms of clamping the air filter in as opposed to dropping it in.

POST 9Original post

how is bcm filter would u recomend them or kani...

POST 10Original post

Just make absolutely sure the filter plenum is TOTALLY clean before putting the new filter back in. When you take out the old one, all the crap sitting on top falls into the plenum, and if you don't clean it out, it'll get sucked into the engine lickety split! (I use my shop vac with a special attachment I made myself for cleaning the leaves and other crap from in front of the radiators without having to remove the bumper. It's just a piece of 1/2" pvc pipe about 2 feet long duct-taped to a fitting that'll attach to the vac.) Norm

POST 11Original post

Put car in service mode? I'm sure you don't have to do this, right? Its an air filter!

POST 12Original post

Yup, you do. It's just an airfilter, but it's a b**ch to get to!

POST 13Original post

by "service mode" that means opening the top a few inches and getting to the engine? Its not actually putting the engine into a special valet type mode electrically for service right?

POST 14Original post

Correct. Just a top opening "status" known as "service position".

POST 15Original post

Please help me replace the air filter in my 2001 Boxster! I know how to access the engine bay but couldn't feagure out how to open the air filter box and replace the filter. Your kind support will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

POST 16Original post

when you get to the filter box, squeeze the metal tabs and pull up the lid of the filter box, thats about it
