Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It appears that the drive shaft in the seat has come undone. Before I pull the seat and start exploring I wanted to find some info/videos that might be of help but I cant find anything. Any suggestions?

POST 2Original post

I had the same thing happen to me. the rear up and down stopped working. I shoved the flex shaft back in the hole - a clip was broken. I used some metal tape to hold it as a tie strap was not an option. Works fine - no issue. I didn't have to remove the seat either. Did it with the seat in the car and used my cell phone to take pictures to see where the hole was. Very easy. I too couldn't find anything online.

i have felt under the seat ( from the back seat) and really cant feel any place to stick the cable in. Any hints? Left side? Right side? Position fore and aft or side to side? tia

Sorry, I have been away. That's what it looks like. I contorted by fat, 55 year old body with a good flashlight after moving the seat all the way forward. I inserted the cable in the hole circled in blue. I then used metal tape to hold in place. I was lazy and didn't want to remove the seat to do a proper fix. I'm sure my one of my nieces when in the back seat, likely broke the cable lock at the end with their big feet. Now they are 5'9" and don't fit in back seat anymore so we don't take the porsche when we go out anymore sadly. Lots of pics here 996 Drivers Side Seat Failure ? HELP... - Pelican Parts Forums

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Shaft replacement is completed. As noted above, there dont seem to be any step by step instructions on how to do this so I wish I had made a short video. At any rate, the seat was in the all the way down position so I couldnt slide a dime under there, much less my hand and phone. I removed the seat bolts and started by tilting the seat forward but that didnt let me see the area properly so I tilted it back and things became clear. Each end of the cable is secured by a bracket that is held in by two torx screws. With these removed the old cable came out. Some broken plastic pieces had to be cleaned out of each end but then we were ready to install new cable. I had gotten this at Pelican parts, about $60. The gearbox end of the cable comes with a bracket in which the cable is captive. The motor end reuses the old bracket which has a slot you slide over the cable. I installed the motor end first. With that done I operated the switch and only then did I realize that the driveshaft would only spin clockwise. So, I removed the switch panel and removed the cover. When I operated the actual switch, the shaft did indeed rotate both directions. What I think happened is that the previous owner must have removed the switch cover and then not aligned the switch peg correctly in its slot in the cover. Once I lined the pins all up, presto, everything operated correctly. like so many projects, the first time is the hardest. If I had to do it again it would be easy.
