Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I just went through the engine and changed a whole bunch of stuff - because they were mostly the original parts :

Its incredible (to me) that I run approaching 700ps on a stock mezger and I promise I drive Minty like i stole her road and track.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As per title guys.
Currently working away racking my brains of which mods to do to my TT x50. Which are the best bbang for buck mods. I'm guessing the obvious is a remap.... What's your thoughts guys please.
It depends a lot on the condition of your car, there's not much point in tuning if it's not running 100% already.
I just went through the engine and changed a whole bunch of stuff - because they were mostly the original parts :
MAF sensor
MAP sensor
O2 sensors
Diverter Valves
Cleaned the throttle body (
guide
)
Spark plugs
Coil packs
Standard Intercoolers (I'll get nice ones at a later stage)
Variocam solenoid brackets (
guide
)
That made quite a noticeable difference, the engine runs much smoother - but they were not upgrade parts really.
You should also make sure that your turbo system has no leaks, you'll need to pressurise the system and listen for leaks - often the leaks can be cured by tightening up pipes and fittings with zip ties. (
guide
)
Cheap (but great) Upgrades
New engine mounts (I went for the
993/964 RS mounts
, but anything will be an improvement on the original mounts)
997 Gearbox mount
Short Shift Kit from Alex
If you want to get into the slippery slope of ECU engine, contact
Markski
The nice thing about giving to a one stop shop rather than trouble shooting yourself is there is no need for trouble shooting with boost leaks, mafs etc if you send to a good indy. I've had 45,000 trouble free miles since I tuned my car via 9e in 2014 @ 59,000 miles.
Feels no different to stock other than more comfortable, GT2 plus handling, faster and 9e handled the entire build for me inc liaising with Porsche Central Operations in Reading on full colour change post 9e also installing OEM GT2 aerokit with a 25% OPC discount on those GT2 parts to boot. Rolls Royce service.
Oh I'd add a 996 GT2 front and rear PU on yours too! :wink:
I wish there was a good indy around here, there's an amazing OPC (with Classic Center)...but insanely expensive.
996 GT2 front and rear....oh yes!! :worship:
I don't think it matters whether you go to an indy or opc anymore re being insanely expensive nowadays. A rear drive shaft for a 997 turbo was £830 inc vat 5 years ago. Today the same OEM part is £1560 inc vat ie almost double. OPCs if you haggle arent that bad. JZM, 9e, Jaz non of them cheap anymore tbh in my experience but i'd rather the work done properly by turbo/GT3 enthusiasts who know their onions. The thing with 9e is they have done so many 996 and 997 turbo remaps and chassis upgrades almost a no brainer. My fear was that my car may be sent back to me like a GT2/GT3 in terms of ride which is not what I wanted. Delighted with outcome albeit not cheap but I love that all these indies above tune your car how Porsche would ie to hold the power all day long. JZM's tuning partner is Manthey! Many over tune customer turbos for one fast pull on the road and their cars explode at the Ring or on circuit hence why 9e not cheap. In fact I believe some tuners business model is to tune your turbo so hard so they in fact get to rebuild your engine and gearbox! Its incredible (to me) that I run approaching 700ps on a stock mezger and I promise I drive Minty like i stole her road and track. Thats mind boggling and a testament to our turbos over engineering from factory. I'd travel if tuning my turbo. 9e an age away from me.
If you can DIY Markski Tuning excellent on 996 turbo too :thumbs:
