Bit of a thread hijack - I have a surplus used (slack) 996 shifter available ripe for conversion having fitted a GT3 shifter.

I will be replacing my engine mounts and selector cables next in the hunt for gear shifting nirvana.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well I actually fitted Alex's short shift kit today having read loads of positive comments and I really am extremely impressed.
I know Alex is just doing this for forum members and not as any business but even so he made the whole experience enjoyable from requesting the part through payment to delivery.
On receipt the great experience continued, the whole part looked attractive (Alex doesn't make the bulk but still) the parts I was really interested in (the bushes engineered from perfect materials and to professional tolerances) were absolutely perfect.
Fitting was a breeze and the supplied videos perfect for a very average hobby mechanic like me to get it right first time. A thanks here too for Mistercom and his excellent video.
Now the best bit, how it works, it is quite simply transformational. The gear shift in my 996 was at best reminicent of the 915 gearbox I had in my old 911 SC in the eighties and at worst downright unpleasant and sloppy. Now it is, to steal a term from another guy who reported on it, like a beautifull rifle bolt action.
Couldn't be more pleased.
Thanks Alex!
I can second that. A great piece of engineering and a huge improvement On the original feel. I will be replacing my engine mounts and selector cables next in the hunt for gear shifting nirvana.
On the back of this thread, and an enthusiastic drive into Wales today, I decided to evaluate the play in my shifter. After watching that video, it's clear that my shifter is more sloppy than a lady of the night when the USS Nimitz has pulled into port after a 3 month mission.
Bit of a thread hijack - I have a surplus used (slack) 996 shifter available ripe for conversion having fitted a GT3 shifter. Dont want a lot for it. PM me if interested as gathering dust.

I added the "Alex SSK Short Shift Kit" a couple of months ago, it made a huge difference - highly recommended and great value for money.
Next up, I need to change the engine mounts...
I bought one of Alex's updated ball joint cap thingies for his SSK a while back, but only recently worked up the motivation to strip everything back to fit it.
I can say it's well worth the effort for the reduction in play. My shifter's chakras are now well & truly aligned.
