Suggestion

You usually end up changing lower suspension parts on the rear due to the eccentric bolts seizing up and not cos they're worn.

Suggestion

As a rule, top mounts don't need replacing on the rear like they do on the front as they're not twisting all the time as the rear wheels don't turn and are fixed.

Suggestion

Personally with that mileage I'd just change the springs and see what comes of stripping it down to do it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I pulled out the 996 cabriolet after 5 months and after a couple of minutes I heard after clunk from the rear end... Result my near side rear spring is broken! Without doing a full suspension refresh what makes most sense? Which items should I replace whilst changing the spring? :?:

POST 2Original post

How old is the current suspension/arms? Sorry if teaching you to suck eggs but remember it's always worth doing suspension in pairs with the opposite side of the car.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's all the original factory suspension, 2005 with 59k miles. No worries, will be doing both sides at the same time.

POST 4Original post

The coffin arms and dogdones and top mounts, basically anything with rubber bushes is the often touted advice. Center Gravity offer a health check which might be worth doing to find out what actually needs doing?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I taken it to CG before it's a 2hr drive.. I don't want to drive it with a broken spring. Do just the Strut top mounts & Bump Stops make sense? Otherwise it feels like a full suspension refresh, which I'm not keen on just yet.

POST 6Original post

Yeah, new top mounts and bump stops with the new springs is going to give you all you need for now. If you need to do arms and bushes later that is a separate thing anyway.

POST 7Original post

As a rule, top mounts don't need replacing on the rear like they do on the front as they're not twisting all the time as the rear wheels don't turn and are fixed. Personally with that mileage I'd just change the springs and see what comes of stripping it down to do it. You usually end up changing lower suspension parts on the rear due to the eccentric bolts seizing up and not cos they're worn.
