Suggestion · Original poster

As we couldnt risk locking the car when we got to our destination and not being able to get in as using the key to unlock doesnt unlock the passenger door (on my car at least) we turned around and went home.

I released the rear boot to with the cable under the light cluster in order to see if connecting a battery charger helped, it didnt, it just set the alarm off and would only switch off with the boot closed and car relocked

Yesterday I took the car out to nip into town before setting off on a longer journey, I made a quick stop to drop something off and as the Mrs was in the car I turned the car off but left the keys in the ignition.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The fob hasnt worked for a while so I use the key for locking / unlocking Yesterday I took the car out to nip into town before setting off on a longer journey, I made a quick stop to drop something off and as the Mrs was in the car I turned the car off but left the keys in the ignition. When I went back to the car and opened the drivers door, the window dropped but the door only opened on to the latch so it was part open. The door handle wouldnt release the latch further. The Mrs reached over and let me in and off we went I got about 100 yards and realised that the window hadnt closed fully, it was still in the door opening position, it wouldnt go up with the window switch, I pulled over got out of the car and closed the door again and the window went up. When I tried the handle the window dropped but the door wouldnt open. As we couldnt risk locking the car when we got to our destination and not being able to get in as using the key to unlock doesnt unlock the passenger door (on my car at least) we turned around and went home. This morning when I unlock with the key the window drops a little but the door doesnt open and after 10 seconds the alarm goes off than stops after a minute or so, the hazards flash for 5 mins (apprx) and I am still locked out Options / ideas please

POST 2Original post

It'll be one of the micro switches on the door mechanism, you can get the same one from an Audi TT which is cheaper than the Porsche part. As for getting in to the car, I now my Targa will allow me to open and close the windows with the key in the door lock by turning the key and holding one way or the other, if that does work on the coupe that will at least get you into the car?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just tried unlocking and holding the key in the unlocked position and also in the locking position but sadly it didnt lower the window I released the rear boot to with the cable under the light cluster in order to see if connecting a battery charger helped, it didnt, it just set the alarm off and would only switch off with the boot closed and car relocked

POST 4Original post

Pity about the windows not dropping on the key, it is probably just a feature on the Targa's, mine does it for the windows but is due to having the glass roof as it lowers and closes the windows and roof at the same time by turning the key in the door lock. quite a while ago I had a similar issue where I couldn't open my passenger door as the inner micro switch had gone and I ended up removing the door card to get in to fix the issue, it was a really hard job to do with the door closed and seat still in place but luckily as it was the passenger side door I could still get in the drivers side to get at it. Hopefully someone comes up with a solution for you.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I spoke to Phil at Porschtek, it sounds like the only option is a length of wire and fiddling around to hook the internal door handle

POST 6Original post

would it not unlock with battery disconnected and using the key in the door?

POST 7Original post

First thing I'd do is get a hair dryer blasting away round the door handle. Could just be some moisture in the micro-switch. Warm it up enough and hey presto, back in action. Pull your handle up too and try blasting air in through the front aperture where the handle locates (microswitch for window drop is next to that).

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is this the door lock micro switch, is there supposed to be something covering the electronic bits in the photos? edit the photos are too big, Ill try again later I spent a long time to no effect trying to get a piece of wire with a hook end ontpo the door lever, pissing in the wind whilst trying to get a bit more room to work I pushed down hard on the top of the door glass and the window went down far enough to get my arm in and get to the door handle

POST 9Original post

The door is in lock mode and Not secure lock which only happens with a key fob activation .. as such pulling the inner door handle should open the door . It won't work if in secure / fob lock mode . However if you can't open the door with the key then either the link between the lock and key has broken or the lock has totally failed . Try the inner door handle but if that doesnt work your in a bit of trouble .. Effectively at this point neither the inner of outer door handle will open the car door with it unlocked .. I would try pushing against the door when using the key to try and get it open .. if you do manage this then DON'T close the door again .. You need a new drivers door lock assembly . If you can not open the drivers or passengers side doors then you are left with doing a window .. do the passengers side so that you are not sitting in a pool of glass . You then need to remove the door card .. you will destroy it basically by doing so .. you then have to get at the lock and try to open it by levering the lock part .. easy said .. hard in practise .. This is more a garage job to be honest . When you unlock the door in this situation you have 10 seconds to insert the key .. if you don't the alarm will trigger ... you cant so it will trigger .

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks @deMort Hi Ian, I am in the car, lifting the door handle dropped the glass enough for me to get enough of a grip to force the window down by 3 or 4 inches and from there I could reach through and get to the inner handle Does the unot in the picture contain the micro switches that are triggered by the door handle?

POST 12Original post

This is the internal door microswitch for the window drop, as seen in the bottom photo: The external door handle microswitch is on the external door handle mechanism.

POST 13Original post

FYI, this is what the internals on the door look like, so you can see where the external handle connects. MC

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

external handle not opening the door Alex so it looks like I need the full door handle mechanism which is what I tried to take a photo of

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I thought about it some more and removed the external handle and found this
