Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
The problem is being able to fit the line in along the body, it has a number of twists and turns.
Leading evidence: 'being able' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'being able' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace aluminium pipe' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Has anyone ever changed the aluminium pipe that comes to the top behind the expansion tank ?

Again look up threads for replacing the coolant tank and threads about replacing motor mounts for more details.

I have not done a tip yet but just put a floor jack under the sump ( uses a small piece of plywood inbetween).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi
Has anyone ever changed the aluminium pipe that comes to the top behind the expansion tank ?
I have a little hole I think
If so, is this doable without having to remove the engine ?
And, what is the utility of this aluminium pipe ?
Thank for all your support
Mike
I think a little hole just behind the clip.
See on a video, it seems to be this pipe.
Normally number 13
I think your best chance for success is to lower the engine some and pull the coolank tank first. I give it a solid maybe
.
I might have that pipe if u have a mk1?
Thank for your answer.
It is more difficult to lower the engine when we have Triptronic ? I saw some video where the man just remove two screw? But me I have the triptronic attached on the engine :s
My 996 is from 2003 so, MK2
I have not done a tip yet but just put a floor jack under the sump ( uses a small piece of plywood inbetween). Undo the 2 nuts on the motor mounts and drop down a few inches. Not hard to do and gives extra rokm. A bunch of threads on removing the tank. Look them up.
Its the same for both. U r not touching the trans just the motor mounts. It will lower just enough to get your hands in there. Again look up threads for replacing the coolant tank and threads about replacing motor mounts for more details.
I believe that line (13) is the vent line from the radiators. I had to change one on my Turbo. I removed the left rear subframe in order to change it. That was less work than removing the engine. The problem is being able to fit the line in along the body, it has a number of twists and turns. To remove the subframe, you must remove the left side CV joint bolts, the left rear sway bar link and the emergency brake cable at the Emergency brake handle. There are three nuts that hold the subframe. I lowered the subframe and was able top snake the replacement vent line into position.
Hope this hel;ps.

Thank you Guys for your answer.
Not pretty easy, but with what you said, with time I could change it myself in my very tiny garage
You said is the vent line from the radiator. But what is the real function of this pipe ? Because he's on the top of the coolant tank. Maybe the vapor who going to the pipe ? Or the coolant's coming from the radiator ?
Sorry Kris, but i'm in France, maybe a little far for this and expansive :/ I think I can find one here for 70-80.
By doing this I think I will change the coolant tank by a new one and maybe the AOS. whatever I think he's good. My car have 150000km and never had white smoke or other. Just this f**** leak of coolant.
