Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

As a C4 owner, albeit with M030 suspension, when I replaced my rear dampers last year I used the Bilstein B4 M030 rear dampers, which are meant to be around 15% firmer than oem, and very similar to the C4S.
Leading evidence: 'Replace rear dampers last year i' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace rear dampers last year i' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. I'm doing some rear suspension work on my 2003 C4S - I'm changing the springs and upper wishbones.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Evening all! I'm doing some rear suspension work on my 2003 C4S - I'm changing the springs and upper wishbones. I did the coffin arms, tuning fork arms and track rods last summer and the shocks were done a couple of years ago by the previous owner. I've started checking everything on the car because I don't trust anything not done by myself. The shocks on the car are definitely OEM and stamped '99633305148', which is the part number for the C2/C4 rear shocks. See link below:
https://www.design911.co.uk/sku-search/s/99633305148
The correct part number for C4S rear shocks is 99633305146, again see below:

Now, my question is: Does it matter that my C4S appears to have C2/C4 shocks on the rear? Are they actually different? Am I over thinking this?
From my understanding the C4S damper is slightly firmer than the C4 damper.
As a C4 owner, albeit with M030 suspension, when I replaced my rear dampers last year I used the Bilstein B4 M030 rear dampers, which are meant to be around 15% firmer than oem, and very similar to the C4S.
It was too firm on anything but the smoothest of surfaces. After playing around with lost of combos I have ended up with M030 fronts and standard Porsche (non M030) rear dampers.
This is far, far better for our UK roads and has stopped the back end being so crashy and skipping about on fast corners that are not billiard table smooth.
So, unless you are finding the car far too soft at the back I would think of it as a bonus that you have the C4 dampers fitted. To me it leaves the car far better balanced front to rear with a slightly softer rear damper than Porsche gave these from the factory.
I'm sure a damper just as firm with more overall control would be good, but the standard/b4 dampers don't have enough control to be this firm for our crappy roads imho.
Thinking about this a bit more, didn't the C4S come with M030 rear dampers as standard?
I remember reading that a lot when doing research on make the car more compliant after being disappointed with how mine felt after fitting new M030 dampers.
I guess the easiest way is if they offer rear dampers for the C4S in standard and m030 spec.?
The early C4 cars are 3.4 and late ones are 3.6. All C4S cars are 'late' cars and therefore 3.6. However, the 996 C4S does have the turbo wide body, so will be carrying a little extra weight.
Ah, that's interesting! I'd like to think it was a deliberate choice, as the previous owner had the rear shocks done at a reasonably well known Porsche specialist and it'd be nice to know it wasn't them being lazy / careless in their fitment choice. I believe the M030 suspension is similar to the 'standard' C4S suspension. I'm not finding the car too soft at the moment, but the chap who does my alignment did wonder if it was riding a little low at the back. I'm planning on taking it back to him once the springs and wishbones are done.
