Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys, we have had this product for a couple of months now running on several cars. They work great and definitely improve the shifting on the factory unit and fit with the aftermarket Porsche, B&M, and Schnell shifter kits. For those that just want to buy it right away and get some serious shifting improvements, here is a SMOKIN deal on these right here right now. $75 Shipped Here is the website verbage on the product - "Agency Power has added yet another important part for your Porsche 996 or 997 vehicles. Like most European cars, the shifting is very sloppy and needs to be stiffen up. AP has designed a lower short shift linkage that fits with the factory or aftermarket shifters. This linkage is 1 solid unit for rigidity using a plastic material insert which gives the shifter a stiff and accurate shift. The shift linkage fits over the stock cable housing giving you ability to adjust its tension for a perfect driving experience. The shift linkage is then tighten down with an easy access stainless steel locking bolt. The Agency Power shift linkage comes in Brilliant Blue and fits all Porsche 996 and 997 from 1999 and on. This includes Carrera and Turbo models." If you want one just PM me or email me! Dan [email removed] www.vividracing.com

POST 2Original post

I don't get it. How does it work and how does it "stiffen" the shifting? Does it make it harder, because stiff implies harder. Does it make it faster and more precise?

POST 3Original post

Wow....I just installed the Schnell, and love it.....I cannot imagine how much better this would make it!!!

POST 4Original post

I can't either since I don't see the benefit of adding a product like this. Waiting on Dan to chime in since I don't feel the "sloppiness" that is described.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The factory piece that is there is plastic and has a rubber bushing where the shifter attaches to as you see. So what happens is when you do your hard shifting (up and down through the gears not side to side) that piece has flex and the rubber cause a little slop. So what this piece does, it it replaces that, allowing you to adjust the cable tension as well. The black part is urethane which is very stiff, so each shift is percise and no extra movement. I run the B&M and this piece. As far as not feeling sloppiness, depends on what you are use to, but generally the factory German cars compare to the Japanese have a much LOOSER gearbox when shifting. My opinion. This part I guarantee a difference. Install it, use it, if you dont think it made ANY difference after, return it within 7 days for full refund. There you go, my infomercial is complete

POST 6Original post

....Cheeky bugger! [cough] ..like most american cars, the suspension needs to be stiffened up...[cough]

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

LOL... Good thing I dont own any american muscle!

POST 8Original post

I think he meant non-RoW cars (ie, U.S. delivery) not American Auto Maker. That is the reason the first mod I did for the track was the suspension to the RoWM030!

POST 9Original post

The design of that shift cable connector sure changed over time.

POST 10Original post

So toolpants, Is this a worthwhile mod or what? Will there be any difference?

POST 11Original post

The stock part breaks. Jeff, What is the one on the left? I have a similar one, but I haven't installed it yet. The threaded shaft looks pretty thin to me, but it's still probably stronger than stock. Dan's looks like a better design, I'd be interested in trying it.

POST 12Original post

I thought the threaded silver unit above and to the left was going to be the one from Agency Power, not the single piece blue unit. The red unit below in the middle is from EVO. The stock black plastic cable connector does not have a rubber bushing. It does have a rubber cover on the outside of the joint end however.

POST 14Original post

Unless it breaks, is the feel that much different??

POST 15Original post

The stock one is 15$, I just keep an extra in the tool box. The whole linkage is plastic and cables, I don't see how replacing one element makes any difference. Afterall, the cup cars use those 'plastic' links.

POST 16Original post

The shop I go to has seen two break. They haven't seen any of the other plastic break. That doesn't mean that if you replace this with a metal one, the new "weak link" wouldn't break.

POST 17Original post

I saw a guy with a TT break one last year at LRP, never since.

POST 18Original post

Unless I dreamed it the pture of the silver one is from Dan and I thought that was going to be the Authority Power's version of the EVO shift link. Now it looks like the design has been changed to a single piece blue unit. Looks pretty with a B&M. My only experience is with the red EVO unit. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...=0&#entry11426 For local owners I would like to put in and try this new blue unit at the next work on cars day.
