Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi
I would like to put a lsd on my car, the open diff is just not for me. What options do I have? Will a 996.1 fit? There's conflicting information on the subject online, rpm technik? Any others?
Hi there
I have the factory fit LSD fitted as standard to the 40th AE - if it helps, this is information on it from the Adrian Streather 996 Essential Companion book.
To be fair I probably don't drive hard enough to actually notice the difference as I don't use it for any track stuff. I'm also lead to believe the plates wear reasonable quickly so reducing its effectiveness.
"All 996 models up to and including MY 2003 with PSM installed as an option or standard were not permitted to be fitted with any form of rear differential apart from an open one. This was because the mechanical action of the LSD interfered with the operation of the PSM. However in MY 2004 the GKN company in the UK developed a special low lock value (22/27%) LSD which could be fitted and function as it was required to do without adversely impacting on the PSM system. This LSD was first installed as standard on the 40th Anniversary model and then offered as Option X75 from Porsche Exclusiv as either a new car or retrofit kit".
He also states:
"The 996 GT2 is fitted with a LSD as standard but never with PSM."
Might help in tracking down what the original specs were. Some discussion from back in the day here -

I had a quaife QDF7Q-2 fitted to my 996.1 about a year ago. Quaife list it as being for 996s 98-04. It helps with traction in the wet but I haven't noticed anything in the dry. I've got 265s on the back.
My 996 came without PSM from Factory, im Running 996.2 gt3 wheels with 235/40r18 Front and 295/30r18 rear. Currently on stock suspension But Plan dropping it slightly. I was considering buying a 996.1 lsd and having it rebuilt.
I have a Wavetrac TBD Torque Biased Diff not LSD. An LSD helps with breaking on track whereas as TBD doesn't but a TBD is better for the road, no parts that wear and less noise.
I've come from a e46 m3 with a hybrid e36 evo custom built with a 60/40 lock I believe, it wasn't loud or anything, sometimes at slow speed coming out of a junction it dragged a bit but nothing serious.
