Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

If it is more prominent during warmup and pretty much disappears when fully warm, you need to have your dealer check your car for the TSB on the Oil Pump Pressure Valve Release.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Like many of us in the northeast, I will be back on the road this spring, which hopefully, will be here soon. However, at a little after 2000 miles, before I put my car to sleep for the winter, I became aware of a prominant noise (best described as a drone) happening between 2000 and 2500 rpm. It was most apparent when accelerating up hill. Are there any tiptronic-S members experiencing this?

POST 2Original post

Penguin I think it might just be that since you havn't driven the car in a while, you've forgotten that the CS engine is loudest between 2000-2800 rpm when under heavy load. After not driving a Cayman for a month and getting in a new one even I was very surprised at how loud the engine actually is in that rpm range when you are giving it gas. You should downshift when going uphill and not load the engine in that rev range. - Suneet

POST 3Original post

I too live in the Northeast and I agree that after not driving my car for about 1 1/2 month it sounded pretty loud, however I loved it. I can't wait for the weather to get better, which is happening right now, as well as the roads to be cleaner.

POST 4Original post

If it is more prominent during warmup and pretty much disappears when fully warm, you need to have your dealer check your car for the TSB on the Oil Pump Pressure Valve Release. My Boxster had this issue, sounds almost like a gear whining.

POST 5Original post

John that's definitley not a drone though, it's like a shrill metal noise... I had that in my '06. - Suneet
