Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Check bolts' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check any loose nuts (been' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I didnt have the sound before I replaced the top mounts.

Turns out the tire shop used a "Backing Nut" style valve stem.

Suggestion
I checked for any loose nuts (been on for three years now) so I'm going to see if that's what it is.
Check nuts and screws nonetheless, especially shock absorber shaft

Check all nuts and screws nonetheless, especially shock absorber shaft to top mount.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I recently mounted Elephant racing quick change camber plates on my 996 C2 2002. Now and then I hear a metallic clunk (like metal to metal clunk) when the suspension is compressed. It usually happens when I ride over a speed bump with one wheel first.
The wheel alignment guy thought the sound comes from the top of the struts.
I read that uniball top mounts can give some noice, but a metallic sound? Is this normal? Or what could have happened? I mounted the top mounts my self, but it was pretty straight forward.

I update my own thread
I think the sound comes from the springs that are moving. I didnt have the sound before I replaced the top mounts. I have ohlins road and track suspension. But the question is, why are the springs moving?
Robert
This is going to sound crazy but I had a similar metallic noise in my front end after suspension, wheels, tires, and alignment.
Turns out the tire shop used a "Backing Nut" style valve stem. The nut came free of the valve stem inside of the tire/wheel and was bouncing around. It would happen sometimes randomly when I came to a stop and reversed, and sometimes rhythmically when turning at a certain speed. Not sure why or how that was the case, but when I pulled the left front from the car I heard the same exact noise.
Sounds like that may not be the case, but for a story of the oddities of "front end noises..."
I've been getting a clunk from the left side when I turn the wheel all the way in one direction. I checked for any loose nuts (been on for three years now) so I'm going to see if that's what it is. I have Elephant LCAs, Camber arms and uniball camber plates.
