So after using the search feature, I found that the speedometer 4-5 mph increase is intentional from Porsche because of automotive regulations?
Leading evidence: 'Use search feature, i found' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Ill make sure to use the search function a little more in-depth next go-around.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello everyone. I just purchased a '99 996.1 6 speed last week. Everything is great with the car so far except for one small issue. I've noticed that my speedometer is off. I noticed this when I was passing a speed trap the other day which displays your current speed. I was comparing my car's speedometer reading to that of the 'official' speed trap display was a 5 mph difference. The speed trap was displaying 32 mph while my car's digital and analogy speedometer reading was reading 37 mph.
I feel like my car is the one that is wrong here, so I am wondering if this is common with other 996 owners? If so, is there a simple fix to recalibrate the speedometer? I guess I could go around town and find other speed traps displaying my current speed and compare it to my cars speedometer to double check. On my new Land Cruiser 250, there is a 2 mph difference and dont think much of it, but 5 mph seems a tad high.
Thanks in advance!
It's been discussed to death. Google 996 speedometer accuracy and read. Not having stock tire sizes will also contribute to it.
Simply yes they all read about 4-5 mph high.
I don't recall the actual tolerances, but all automotive speedometers are built to read the actual speed or higher but are not in regulation if showing a lower speed. I think the tolerance is between +10.0% and -0.0%.
and the best way to measure actual speed is with your mobile phone and an app like this:

or even better, the RaceTimer app:
