Hello, I'm asking for a bit of guidance.
I disassembled my spoiler today to find that electric motor if working fine, but when I use button to retract spoiler, motor keeps on going to the point plastic jams - microswitches don't seem to work. I used
multimeter
to find switches working just fine, so I believe problem may be located somewhere else - control module? Unfortunately I don't have workshop manual or any idea where to start. If anyone have some experience and is willing to share it, I'd be really grateful. Cheers!
Hi - it might be helpful if we knew what year and model you're asking about.
It would be nice if you introduced yourself (understanding that something is broken NOW and you want an answer NOW..)

My WAG - you'll need a diagnostics tool to figure out what's wrong. The spoiler is controlled by the rear body control module, and on some models that sits under the drivers seat and is prone to flooding if the top (Boxster) is down during a storm, or drains are plugged up (Boxster and Cayman). The diagnostics tool (Porsche specific) will tell you if the control unit recognizes the microswitch(es) and should allow you to activate and deactivate the spoiler.
Thank you for quick reply! The car is
987.2
boxster
2010.
Spoiler was malfunctioning since i bought the car but only now i found some time to try and fix it.
I'll look for the module under drivers seat then. Diagnostic tool is something i wanted to buy, but don't know if anything other than hacked
PIWIS
is worth it.
Cheers
For the
987.2
series - the
Foxwell NT530
is pretty competent. It does some programming, it allows live monitoring of things like "switch status - open/closed" and other useful tools (like activating the spoiler using the
Foxwell
..) It can be had for around $170 - a fraction of what a hacked
PIWIS
will cost. It also does handle other Porsches, some with excellent coverage, some with cursory coverage. You can also buy and install diagnostics software for other vehicle manufacturers (mine also has
Toyota
for my wife's
Lexus
..)
Best place to buy it -
Amazon
if easy return is a compelling factor.
Foxwell
themselves if rapid delivery and good price is a concern. Support on it - as with ALL the Chinese diagnostics is sketchy. Sometimes it's excellent (several suggestions I made were incorporated into a firmware update), other times it's like talking to a wall. They have been pretty responsive via Facebook, but still failed to resolve an issue (
PDK clutch
calibration is missing for the
987.2
) despite lots of messaging back and forth.
Their website:
Foxwell NT530 OE-Level & Bi-Directional Scanner Upgraded Version Of NT510 Elite & NT520 Pro
- has the NT530 for $160 with "one software" - you order it as "with one software" and when you receive it you register it and download and install the software - obviously you'd be selecting Porsche.
I can't give it a 5 star rating because of the support issue, but I suspect any Chinese diagnostics is similar (at least the other ones I've tried), but for use with a 987.2, it's what I hookup when I go to use one (and I own two other Porsche diagnostics tools..)
Well i found a vendor selling
VAS 6154
with hacked
piwis
for 210$ (same as
NT530
in my region), which i presume would work via virtual machine - software to which vendor would provide, but I'm kinda hesitant - seems almost to good to be true?
Either way my father in law is a mechanic so maybe I'll go for
Foxwell
just so we could use it on other brands after buying additional software - he loves Mazdas, Hondas and Toyotas
$210 does seem too good to be true. All the
VCI
adapters I have seen are in the $400 range, and even these are from non-responsive sellers in China. Not that there's anything wrong with China, but when you need help you can't always get it... and I've read that these have failed for people, without warning.
