Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hello, I still can't figure out what this strange crow like sound is. If cold, the car makes this noise once a second or so. However, once it is warmed up the noise is almost constant. Please listen to the videos attached. Video 1: Recording of the noise while driving - the noise seems to disappear once I start moving, however, once I slow down to a stop or I am fully stopped then the noise carries on. At around 1 minute 40 seconds you can hear it randomly make a constant noise for a while instead of pulsing. Video 2: Harder to hear in this one but it is after a long drive and the car being fully warmed up. You can faintly hear that the noise is still there but it is just constant instead or pulsing. Points to note: It still makes the noise with the AC off and fan fully turned off I can't seem to figure out where it is coming from - sometimes it seems like it's coming from the engine bay but I'm now leaning towards thinking it is coming from the front of the car. I couldn't hear it when I took the engine bay cover off behind the seats which also makes me lean towards thinking it is coming from the front of the car. The car has started to take a bit longer to start up when cold (I live in the UK and it has been like 1 degree Celsius most mornings) - I have put this down to cold weather but potentially related if the noise is due to a fuel pump or something? I would really appreciate some helpful advice. Thanks, Spencer

Hello, my 2011 boxster s is having exactly the same noise. I think it’s from hpfp. Have you figured out what’s going on?

POST 3Original post

My '15 981 CS just started making a similar noise yesterday afternoon. At first, I thought something related to brakes was making the noise since it had a regular (cyclical) rubbing sound. I tried turning the car off and then starting it again. It happened again and it didn't seem speed dependent. But it was easier to hear when going slow. Then at one point, there was a strange "WHOOSH" noise (like a waste gate opening) and the noise when away. Looking to do a drive tomorrow and see if it happens again.

Follow-up. Small rocks that worked their way between some plates behind the left-rear rotor . Probably from several days ago from a road that had been prepped for chip-sealing. Glad it was 'minor!'
