I am the 2nd owner of a 2006 BS with 36,000 miles. Everything is great on the car except there is a an annoying tin like rattle which I have been unable to locate. The rattle comes and goes on certain roads and when I am driving at certain speeds. Any ideas as to what it might be or suggestions on how to locate it would be greatly appreciated.
Tough do diagnose without knowing whether you are hearing it from the front of the car, underneath you, the rear?
On my
Cayman S
, I've found that if one of the two metal enging covers (one on top of the engine, one in front of, both under carpeted panels) aren't tight (very tight!) they vibrate and make a metallic rattle.
Thank you. Out of town I will check the engine cover and report back
Porsche actually makes a CD to test for vibrating panels - not terribly expensive IIRC - I have it on my Suncoast wish list. I suspect it plays a sweep of frequencies repeatedly so whatever is making the noise gets activated without the car running or moving allowing you to track down the culprit. Sorta a cool Porsche thing to own..

That's hilarious! K-tel presents, rattles of the decade. You'll get such famous hits as "brake shield boogie" "heat shield blues" "stuff in the glovebox ragtime" "good vibrations" and so much more!
I may need to pick up one of those. I have an annoying rattle that only happens with the top and drivers side window down (obviously a
Boxster
).
If you do - make sure you post a review.. and complete info on the artist and tracks...
That CD is crazy and funny.
From what I read, it's just a CD with various frequency sweeps. That said, you can get some apps on your phone that can do this as well.... I guess I'm too cheap to consider trying it myself, but I would be curious to know what it offers.
Only Porsche could do that and get away with it......
I dunno, the title "Gerausch und de Vibrations" really makes it for me..
