And test drive the car but before you do, drive the same 996 cabrilet with less km that is in very good condition and then this one and make sure it feels and performs the same.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello This is indeed a very interest community. I am about to enter the new world of owing a 911. I found a 911 Carrera 4 cabrio in very good shape, but he has 184.000 kilometers. Can anyone give me an idea if this too much for a 3,6 lts or for this type of engine it is just the beginning. I have confident on the kilometers, I mean they are real, and the clutch has been changed at 145.000. I would appreciate any hints in order to do a good achievement. Thanks Fernando BO

POST 2Original post

Hi Fernando, Hmmm. Its quite a lot but good as it shows the car to be well engineered. Are you sure its the 3.6 engine as I thought that didnt come out until September 2001? Is the car a prefacelift (boxter lights) or facelift car (996 Turbo headlights). If pre facelift with a 3.6 engine then the engine has been replaced. I guess you can just about put Warranty on the car (184k km = 113k miles). I would definitely do that given the mileage. Although I would check with your local Porsche dealer to see what the criteria is for your country. Remember that soon you can not extend the warranty, which you could use as a negotiating tool for a lower price. How much are they asking for the car? Has the car been serviced regularly, correctly and with a reputable company? Can you get the car checked out by a Porsche specialist? Have the kilometers been clocked on motorways or on frequent short distance trips? Any crashes? How many km a year will you be doing in the car? If a lot, then I wouldn't buy the car, if very little then why not given the history is perfect and the price is right. Check the all electrics, the roof functions correctly and the state of the roof. I take it that you are in Spain? The climate helps being warmer and drier so that is good. And test drive the car but before you do, drive the same 996 cabrilet with less km that is in very good condition and then this one and make sure it feels and performs the same.
