Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

PCM 2 is a widescreen unit, I don't know what other changes were made over PCM 1 unit.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
As a newbie (to 911UK), I am about to buy a replacement for my sadly departed 996 Cab. Thanks very much to that 18 year old in a Fiat Uno, who managed to dent every panel on the car.
Tested both 997S and 996 tt. Like the power of the turbo (my driver skills will I hope - never trouble the handling of either) and interior of the former. Not certain about looks of the 997 though.
BUT - budget allows for 2001-2002 996 and 2004-5 997.
Therefore simple (snigger) question. What are your thoughts?
The 996 tt comes with recent service and new 11 OPC check and warrenty.
I have my 996TT up for sale so could be considered bias but ignoring that I'd say the TT all day long.
Huge smiles every time and done the majority of its depreciation.
No brainer....for me :thumb:
Was the Fiat Uno white?
Were you driving in a tunnel in Paris at the time?
Are you an attrective middle aged blonde lady?
Have you upset your father-in law?
:thumb:
p.s. go for the Turbo
Thanks,
Actually a green one - with lots of orange patches.
On a country lane in Lancashire (he passed his test 3 months previously - hit the grass and spun it into me - I veered left to avoid and he hit the front and back, me into tree on left then right into ditch - ouch)
I am grey unattractive and male.
Always upsetting my father in law.
TT here I come.
Dithered for long enough.
Any thoughts on PCM 1 or 2 - both sound as bad as each other?
PCM 2 looks better though.
I'd def go TT, awesome bang for buck!
and PCM2 if you can, both not as good as current aftermarket offerings, but PCM2 head and shoulders ablove PCM1.
welcome and good luck in your search
I'd rather have a 997
2 year servicing,
far cheaper car to run
doesn't cost £550 to change the spark plugs as well
Lots of turbos are getting a little tired and thr running costs arent cheap
Im sure it was you who stated if you worry about running costs a 911 you shouldn't be owning one...or something like that
.
Personally if I had the option it would be a 997 S (not the standard Carrera) for the above reasons.
997 has a much nicer interior and lower servicing costs I would have thought.
I was never a huge fan of any Turbo models however the looks of the 996 turbo have grown on me recently.
Good luck with your search.
....... from a dealer !!!
Tough call; 996 turbo is a real value for money package in performance terms; bangs for bucks as so eloquently put.
but I can totally understand the temptation of the early 997's.
For me, it would be the 997 because of the sensible advice above, the better build quality and much improved technology.
But if its
 you're looking for, then a good turbo will deliver in bucketloads.
Damn - the 997 boys are turning my head.
I plan to keep the car for 5-10 years. Keep the OPC till 9 then run with a specialist such as Hartech (they really cared for my 996).
Miles per year = 6000 (occasionally for work).
The car I'm looking at is 45k with 30k on the clock. Grey on Black.
Could go higher if I had to.
The 997 I tested at my local OPC had Sports Chrono and exhaust - sounded great but did not feel anywhere near the tt in terms of grunt.
