Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
I would suspect the previous owner had a trickle charger hooked up to the battery, because every (non daily driver) 996 should have a trickle charger hooked up to the battery
Leading evidence: 'previous owner had a trickle charger hooked up' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'previous owner had a trickle charger hooked up' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace battery first' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I agree with Dagsvik, it is likely a trickle charger, but could be something else.

I agree and do so but is there a way to run a pigtail from the battery into the cabin so I don't need to leave the frunk open?
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all, new '99 996.1 C2 owner here. Had my indy replace a cracked windshield and diagnose a slow crank when warm. Former replaced and latter recommended replacing the battery first.
Went to Costco to pick up a replacement and installed. When I was taking out the old bsttery, I noticed these 3 wires not connected to anything. I'm not sure if the indy didn't reconnect them but wanted to ask here if anyone knew what these might be? I noticed when I got the car back I got random crackles in my speaker (only when radio is on) at below 3000rpm. When I'm driving above 3000 the speakers sound normal. Thinking it could be related to the 2 cables with metal ends but wanted to ask here before I do something stupid.
I have stock everything audio to my knowledge (hi-fi sound package and cdr220).
1) should I connect the 2 to the battery?
2) what might those cables be for?
Have no idea about the white plastic end cable.
Those dont look factory, so it could be anything aftermarket that one of the previous owners installed (and subsequently removed, but left the wiring).
edit: I wouldnt connect any of those to the battery, unless you know exactly what their purpose is for.

Plug it in and look for smoke.
Just kidding!!
I wouldn't connect it unless I knew what it was for.
I agree with Dagsvik, it is likely a trickle charger, but could be something else.
Without knowing where they go and whether there are bare wires on the other end I wouldn't connect them.
Trace them to where they end and then decide whether you want to remove them or just leave them as-is.
Thanks all! Investigating more the black and red cables are trickle charge cables - pretty certain. The random ethernet-plug one no idea. However I went for a long spirited drive on Saturday - and that seemed to clear up all my speaker static 😎 - a lovely remedy.
