Car and Driver review of the 991.2
Carrera
T

As verification of the 911 Carrera T’s effectiveness on imperfect roads, Porsche was thoughtful enough to also bring along examples of
the 911 GT3 Touring package
at the same time and included a winter-tire-equipped example in our tour of the cols in southern France. And despite the respect we have for the wholly track-worthy GT3, it wasn’t as good a car in this terrain. The taller, less powerful T haunted it with turbocharged torque at every corner exit while Hoovering up the imperfect road surface with far more grace. It was also comfortably quicker in this scenario.
Good review. The T appears to hit its intended mark...and despite SPASM is surprisingly civil on rough roads.
They call it a parts-bin special but nothing wrong with that. Not sure why
Porsche
created a special model rather than offer these options on the base
Carrera
. Unless bundling all these options makes it easier for them like what Acura does with its cars. I still prefer my approach which was to order a 4S with many more color as well as performance options to pick and choose.
Agreed that getting exactly what you want by picking options is a preferred approach, however with the T you can get those gorgeous
LWBs
that aren't available on any other non-GT
911
. And factory rear seat delete. And lightweight glass. This makes the T a bit different than other "parts bin" vehicles like GTSs where all the options are available a la carte. For me, SPASM on the T was a bit of a turn off as I have found the couple of
x73
981s
I've been in a tad harsh; it may be that it was easier to tune the 991.2 chassis with SPASM so it's not so harsh (although that's reading a lot on my part into one reviewer's comments on one specific set of bad roads).
It will be interesting to see other views on the T's suitability as a DD.
I never understood the rear seat in the
911
. The T is great.

Yeah, after I ordered my 991.2
GTS
I found the Euro catalog for the
GTS
and one of the options was Rear Seat Delete. I called my dealer to see if that option was available in the in the States but unfortunately it wasn't. I'd much rather have the extra space and less weight. Also, unless I missed something, the rear seat delete is only available on the T in combination with the carbon fiber buckets - if you get any other front seat the rear seat delete doesn't appear to be an option.
Does anyone know if the T is going to be a limited model or tough to get. Though what they say and what they do may be two different things. Aka, "they will build as many GT3s as they can sell."
Not a limited edition per se. But, like most
Porsche
"special editions" it's limited by the number of allocations parceled out to individual dealerships. Will this mean everybody who wants one will get one? Only if the planned supply meets the actual demand.
Has anyone out there ordered a T yet? Did you negotiate a discount?
Several people have order the T and are posting about it on ********. Here is one thread:
