Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It was a coil pack issue and as it happens I've had half of them replaced so we'll be fine from now on.
Leading evidence: 'Replace so we'll be fine' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'maf, the abs light would come' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check light came' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

If it was the MAF, the ABS light would come on as well - so I'm with Wattie on this one.

Suggestion
Engine check light comes on as the exhaust now has unburnt fuel in it and it's warning you to get it fixed before you knacker your cats.

A quick inspecton round the back and I could hear that the right bank (as you look from behind) sounded like it was mis-firing, a quick hand test over the exhaust comfirmed this as compared to the left.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Engine check light comes on as the exhaust now has unburnt fuel in it and it's warning you to get it fixed before you knacker your cats.
Having spent the mornng having to drive through the lovely back roads of Cheshire, I thought I'd better give the car a clean.
An hour or so later, just pulling down the road, making sure nothing seizes over night, the engine check light came on
I also notice a very rough tickover.
Pulling over, for a bit hoping that the light would go, it didin't :?

So I brought the car home (carefully) but the light is still on.
The only thing that I can see that has changed is the fact I've washed the car, but I can't see what I've done :? if anything.
Could I have got water on the coil packs or somethning else that has effected the engine/one clyinder in some way? It was absoutely fine this morning whch is why I'm puttng down as to me washing it, any clues?
I'm so depressed I'm going to watch Harry Hill.

Split coil pack - I'll put money on it!
They deteriorate and the casing splits over time (especially if the heat shield is rusty as mine was). Then a drop of water and it misfires (hence the after a wash problem in your case).

I think you might be right also
, having left the car for almost 24 hours and started it up again, it started flawlessly (to my unexperienced ears). So I would agree that it appears to be a coil pack that has almost collapsed.
Fortuately, I already had it booked in for a service this Tuesday, so I'll add this to the list of things to be tended to.
Depression lifted, black clouds blown away
, even if I've a servicing bill on the way.
Thanks,
Simon
Yep, that sounds about right, but no extra fitting charge if the service includes plugs anyway...
You may need a new heat shield as well, but it's only about £20 IIRC
Wattie/Seagull what can I say :worship:

Thanks for the help.
