Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone know what this sound is in my C4S? When I switch on my ignition, without starting the car, there's a strange noise coming from the viccinity of the glove compartment. It's not a mouse or any such vermin as the noise stops as soon as soon as I turn off the ignition. Also it's not the ventilation fan.

POST 2Original post

Cooling fans? Fuel pump? Not sure exactly where these are positioned, but fuel pump could be there - I'm sure someone who knows will be along soon

POST 3Original post

It's the CD pre-warming the unit, it makes a few clicks whilst it's calibrating itself.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Damian, what do you mean by CD - I don't have a porsche compact Disc, or do you mean something else. thanks Ray

POST 5Original post

I do mean CD, on CDR equipped cars the headunit occasionally clicks as it calibrates and pre-warms the laser when the doors open. What headunit/stereo do you have?

POST 6Original post

I know exactly what you mean. My car is due into the OPC next Monday for the tenth time! :x I am informed it is the motorised flaps for the ventilation that reset. Supposedly these have been changed the motor driving these flaps has been changed and the controller controlling the motor function. If your sound is the same as mine the engine does'nt have to run ..... just the ignition on. If they ever cure it I will post the successful cure.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

dashboard noises thanks bossmls, that makes perfect sense. I drove 150 miles to Bath this morning and I could hear the sound when I was in a traffic queue after 2 hours driving. Yes please let me know what the outcome is cheers Tay

POST 8Original post

Car is now back from OPC after 2 weeks. (they had to order part). Part fitted was the motor controlling the heater ventilation flaps, apparantly this resets the flaps when you switch on the ignition. Mine was cycling  If you ever get the problem it sounds not unlike a coffee percolator under the glove compartment.
