Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Furthermore, I'd suggest that if you need to spray the bonnet and wings to blend the front PU, you would also have to re-spray the entire car using the same argument.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm considering having the front PU resprayed on my 4S... anyone have any idea of cost?

POST 2Original post

Hi Robert about £400 at a decent body shop.... upwards starting at £1K if you use porsche approved as they will try and blag you into having the wings and bonnet blended as well. - Simon

POST 3Original post

I gather the front PU means bumper/apron ?? Sorry for being thick :? The bonnet and wings will have to be blended for a decent colour match. All paint fades and you would see the difference if you did not blow in the surrounding areas Steve

POST 4Original post

I arranged for a front PU respray when I bought my car, and they didn't do any blending with the bonnet and wings. Looks great to my untrained eye. There certainly doesn't appear to be any mismatch from fading. It is arctic though, which may be more forgiving in this respect. I think it cost about £450 for this.

POST 5Original post

I need to do this, then when I leave drive straight to paintshield to have it coated....

POST 6Original post

I personally don't believe you need it blending. A good paintshop will be able to take into account the fade in the original colour and you will lose the barely noticeable difference in the panel gap. It's easier with the lighter metallics when compared to the base colours, eg red! Also, the front PU is plastic, so there will always be a slight difference in colour anyway. Furthermore, I'd suggest that if you need to spray the bonnet and wings to blend the front PU, you would also have to re-spray the entire car using the same argument.

POST 7Original post

has mine done last year for £350 to get rid of all the stone chops prior to getting it paintshielded

POST 9Original post

The blending is done onto just the next panel so the colours blend into 1 another so they look the same. No bodyshop can mix paint to taking into account how much the original has faded. Paint is mixed to the original code of the car and then blended in. Usually bad paint matches show up under street lights, especially non metallics Steve

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks folks. I was planning to use Specialised Paint nr Reading who did an unbelievably good job on my 993- resprayed the PU, the front wings and the bonnet. It was an involved job, they did clever things with the paint matching (on Arena red), and the untrained eye really could not tell. Not cheap mind at £1500, but glad the PU seems a bit cheaper! Oddly, on my 996, the bonnet has taken a few chips, but the wings seem remarkably untouched- the angle of attack must be in their favour.

POST 11Original post

RSJ quoted me £250 per bumper (assume that excludes VAT?). But I am actually not going to bother. Have a few scratches and one chip, but mine isnt a garage queen. With a limited budget I have decided to spend the cash on other bits and bobs.

POST 12Original post

Here here, we can put our banged up Porsches side by side! Hey, no point me bothering anyhow, now I've put new rads in, it will only be time before I stove in the front end and have wasted all that money anyhow! It's amazing how new, cash paid for parts attract armco ..... it's the way of the world....

POST 13Original post

it was up at a Bodyshop near Paintshield when I had left my car up there for a few weeks.... Any quote sub 300 is good, just need to ensure it is done properly, as the last owner had done a respray but known to him the standard by the paintshop was not very good at all, with creases and paint peeling occuring after only 6 months

POST 14Original post

Now there is a good idea. Get it painted up there then nice and close to paintshield.

POST 15Original post

I am having mine done next week.. I have to remove it myself (??) and drop it off to a friend who work for a very good bodyshop near brooklands. He is going to charge me around £100 - . Then I have to refit it and drive the car to get the front end stone chip guard'd..(front bumper and half hood only) I am very happy with the price, and his work is some of the best I have seen. Anyone know how to remove a frony PU on a 996.. He can't have the vehicle on site (small car park) and do me a mates rates price.. (hence the front PU removal)
