They eventually came off with no damage...(they had lifted slightly hence I wanted to refix) Cleaned them up and used some 1mm thick double sided tape to refix and have gone back really well.

I've been thinking whether to change the sill kick plates from the present rather boring plastic affair with Carrera set in, to a shiny stainless steel set that I've seen on porscheshop.

They should use the same glue to fix the badges to the wheel centers then!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've been thinking whether to change the sill kick plates from the present rather boring plastic affair with Carrera set in, to a shiny stainless steel set that I've seen on porscheshop. The question I have though is how easy is it to change them? and how are they held on? Simon

POST 2Original post

Great post, I've been contemplating exactly the same thing...would be very interested in seeing the responses....I'm sure Big Bob will have an opinion. Can't think of any reason for adding this smiley, but felt it had to be done: :starwars:

POST 3Original post

I just had some OE carbon fibre kick plates fitted to my 4S which look fantastic. I'd post a picture if I knew how. The beauty of the CF ones is that they curve up toward the door catch, and cover more of the sill. Not cheap though... nearly £300. As far as I can tell, the old ones are glued in, and just pull out (although my tech said it was quite a battle- the fact that the old ones were completely bent and cracked speaks volumes for the glue used at the factory!) The new ones are held in place with blue-peter stylee double sided sticky tape.

POST 4Original post

They should use the same glue to fix the badges to the wheel centers then! as many people think theirs have been pinched when really they simply fall off!

POST 5Original post

The stainless steel sills on my turbo appear to have been fitted with two lines of double sided tape. I believe they might have been a factory option. Managed to remove them by gently prising them up, took quite a while and quite a bit of patience!! They eventually came off with no damage...(they had lifted slightly hence I wanted to refix) Cleaned them up and used some 1mm thick double sided tape to refix and have gone back really well. Sure others will be along shortly with further comments...

POST 6Original post

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your CF sills from? I am keen to get some of these as the stainless steel ones I have could do with replacing. Thanks

POST 7Original post

www.porscheshop.co.uk sell some, but I am not sure if these are genuine parts. www.design911.co.uk sell some as well, but again, not sure if genuine. ebay will have lots on, but again, probably not genuine. I'm sure Porsche OPC will sell them as well, but can't see them on Tequipment. Cheers.

POST 8Original post

Thanks for your help. I had looked at the usual suspects, but the CF ones that cover more of the sill seem very cheap at design911 (£125).

POST 9Original post

http://p-car.com/diy/sill/index.html Relates to the 993 but I assume process would be similar for later cars.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Ghost. My that looks like a lot of work, perhaps a job for better weather. Simon

POST 11Original post

Sorry, only just caught up with this thread. I got my Tequipment CF sills from Porsche Centre Reading. They cut me a good deal on them (for an OPC!). They are superb quality, with the "Carrera 4S" script.

POST 12Original post

Hi I'm sorry I'm late in putting in my two penneth as expected. They are stuck on. Let me say now that I am not on commission from the Porsche Shop (right Paul  ). No seriously I think they provide good parts at good prices. Service is good too. I can only speak as I find too. I also think that rather than jumping from Supplier to Supplier to get the cheapest individual price does not get you the best deal in the long run. Better to have a good relationship in the longer term with one Supplier. If you are worried about changing them the Porsche Shop will do it for you - reasonable labour costs too! Have fun. Regards Big Bob PS Paul please note :worship: )
