Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
You would want to replace the IMSB, AOS, water pump, low temp thermostat and inspect for scoring before you install it.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Greetings
My 2002 996 C4 suffered a catastrophic failure (cracked cylinder wall) within last month. I have not decided what to do with it yet, but would like to give it a good wash before putting the car cover on.
My mechanic left the windows and trunk open when he removed the engine. I don't want water getting into the trunk or the cabin, of course.
Is it safe to temporarily connect the battery to get the windows up, close the trunk, wash the car, then re-open the trunk to store the car cleaned?
Thank you
P.S anyone looking to buy an engineless beautiful 2002 996 C4 Cab in Lapiz blue and natural leather interior?
As long as the positive cable in the engine bay is not touching anything, tape it or slip some rubber hose over it, you should be ok.
Just in case you might want to pull the right headlight and left taillight and pull the emergency release cables out in the open to make sure that you can get the lids open again.
Not sure how you cracked the head on a 3.6 but if it is like the 3.4 cracks the head can be fixed for around $4k.
One of many

Thanks FPB111.
Unfortunately the only two choices my mechanic gave me were 1) buy a new engine from porsche, or 2) buy a used engine. Both options are on the expensive side, particularly because I had spent about 10K in 2016 in a lot of preventive work to avoid a catastrophic failure.
Are you aware of other options? I'm open to any options that get my car on the road again at a 'reasonable' cost.
Probably most " reasonable" is a used engine. With that you really don't know what you have. You would want to replace the IMSB, AOS, water pump, low temp thermostat and inspect for scoring before you install it.
Better is using LN Engineering "Nickies"

it looks like vertex URL is blocked on Pelican?
You don't say where you are or who you are using.
As shops get more familiar with these engines more are rebuilding them. There might be one in your area.
Personally I would not leave my Engine with a shop that wasn't going to do something with it now. It will get moved around and libal to start shedding parts. Plus anything loose, bolts, mounts etc. will get separated from the engine and lost. Where is the trans?
I'm in South Santa Clara county (Gilroy, Ca). And the car is sitting pretty in my garage, with the engine partially uninstalled, and the removed pieces in boxes. Disappointment feeling every time I go into the garage and see it there. It's looking like my 4rth Porsche will be the last Porsche I own.
It is good that you have decided to keep it forever.
