i have looked at a number of web sites and they are all pretty dear to buy a set for a porsche.

just a short one, has anyone ever fitted snow chains and if so have you any details as i am planning to be in the french alps on saturday of this week and we were considering just buying some in a store in france??? any help would be appreciated. shane

I do know they are a lot cheeper in france than the uk, i brought some from a garage on the side of the road (about 70% cheeper than the uk) it was not for a porsche but they have places like 'norauto' that sell them cheeper than a dealer can. Also they seam to get more expensive for some reason when you get the the towns that have snow the tyre sizes may be the issue though. as they are normally different front/back, you may be able to get away with just chains no the rear to give you traction. Have you thought about snow socks?

Be careful: regular snow chains can damage your wheels. I would recommend either the Spikes Spider http://www.spikes-spiders.com for more severe use, or the Snow Sock for occasional/temporary/emergency use http://www.autosock.co.uk
