I was tempted to buy used but the standard colour offerings just don’t do it for me and i’m not a fan of the revealed carbon bonnet which many seem to have.

Over the last 12months after selling my 991.2 GT3 manual CS (8k miles owned from new for 5 years) in 2023 to a fellow enthusiast PHer I have been offered 3 new GT3 slots by my OPCs ...and turned them all down (yes the savage depreciation I admit was a main factor) similar a couple of 4RS slots this year but I don't use them in the winter I choose to garage them and use other cars instead ....same as many others.

As for discount, could you say what percentage ??
Edited by ChrisW. on Saturday 23 November 19:14
Perth have been advertising a new blue car for a few weeks - recently reduced below list. I think that with both cars mentioned supply now at or even over level of demand as speculators now not interested so “ordinary” buyers have a chance while they are still being made.
Haven't Porsche said that they will extend the life of their ICE cars ... saying also that the take-up of EV's is slower than they would like and delaying announcements on the new Ev Cayman ?
Quite ironic the OP always claimed
he was far more interested in driving than depreciation.
Does beg the question if he can actually afford a Porsche lol.

Yep Chris could well be delayed due to lack of demand.
Pleasure chap.
So you are making out you have just been offered an unrepeatable deal Spyder RS at below list which strangely has already been offered at huge discount on the OPC network for months but hasn't sold.....and you claim I am the self important one.
:
Then you bang on about depreciation.....again.....
Ok.

Hi folks.
Out of the blue, I have been offered a brand new 718 Spyder RS with weissach pack.
Great spec, great colour ( shark blue) but not something I had looked into or considered.
It's been offered a good bit below list.
Are these not really in that much demand, and where will the prices of these settle if I am already being offered it under list?
Also, how much of a hassle is removing and replacing the roof?
Any advice / thoughts appreciated.
Currently 6 brand new unallocated gt4rs for sale within the uk, I’d say the SRS is heading the same way.
All depends if you want the car to use and enjoy or if you’re worried about depreciation.
Do you have a strong previous buying history with the opc which offered you the unallocated car?

718 Platform doesn't meet the new EU cybersecurity regs and is not something that can be fixed economically. RS Models are exempt due to limited production.

Are you considering popping it up for sale privately on the likes of PH and AT.
You see very few sensibly priced private Porsche GT cars for sale nowadays, which shocks.
As long as the seller is realistic they should get a higher return than the low trade bids we are now hearing about.

Heres another been hanging around for months great value well below list.
Trade on this is around £124000.
So looking for £15k spread after costs and extra discounts ?
Goes to show the potential huge profit these opc still look to make per sale when possible.
£124k trade to a £147k showroom floor price is some difference.
Its only a few months old, so they can’t of had it long nor can I see an opc overpaying in this market.
I agree ... why not give it a try ? It will be under warranty and it's not as-if the OPC's are offering any freebies ... it's tight for everybody ... and there is more cost effective finance around than that currently offered by OPC's ...

^^^^ incredibly rich coming from someone reknown for constantly banging his well known fantasist drum 'its all about the driving' and nothing whatsoever to do with the prices and depreciation.
Yeah right.
And yet here he is starting a thread on the very subject of demand and prices.
You couldn't make it up.

Its interesting Chris how the market appears to increasingly discount any value attributable to mags and
ceramics despite their huge cost firstly on the 4RS and now on the SRS.
Would consider them fairly essential on the 4RS much less so
on the SRS due to the huge difference in spring rates.

My cars sit outside, and not in a garage; they get used in all weather and right now the 675 is minging from a 250 mile journey last week in the worst weather.
I think I lost about £20k on the GTS cab that i had for 6mths, cannot even remember on the other 992 i had, so depreciation isn't really my big concern.
I know nothing about you but I guess you buy stuff, only use it on the best possible days, brick it about putting any mileage on the car in the event you lose another £100 on its value.
If that's your thing, fair enough.
On the contrary.
Folks on here know the cars I've owned as I've posted about them and photos of them enough times including latterly two white GT3s two red GT4s a white Spyder a red Carrera T amongst others all owned from new non flipped and with a fair amount of use across them all. I also ordered a Lotus Emira V6FE manual in July 21 due delivery Spring 23 and an i4 FE dct in summer 2022 due delivery summer 23 and cancelled them both due to their ongoing problems and Lotus overall incompetence.
Various reasons why I therefore passed on the 4RS as previously posted I hope to receive my OPCs last car probably April next year in fact Tyrone (TDT with an RS) knows I am holding out for a Venadium Grey 4RS a colour which may well be introduced for the car as well as the SRS in 2025 hopefully.
One thing I do not do is pretend NOT to be interested in depreciation...a fool and his money and all that.....I find the markets fascinating and always have and personally am requested constantly to give advice to many PHers regarding cars and their values etc..
I don't know you and it would appear not many others PHers do either but I do hope you find a SRS to your liking at a good price meanwhile we will leave it there and let this interesting thread continue.

I don’t find a 15k spread all that much - I pay close 10k in SOR fee to sell a car (and much more than that at an OPC), so if they actually put money down instead of me having to wait for them to maybe sell it over the next 6-12 months, then that seems relatively fair to me on a car of that value.
All this talk of prices and depreciation is so so boring. Seems to permeate every Porsche topic on Pistonheads which reminds me why i seldom visit nowadays.
You are never going to make a fortune buying a non-limited production car. If you stress over whether it loses you £10k or £30k the minute you drive out of the showroom, perhaps this might not be the car for you. There is no doubt a Kia showroom down the road where all of these issues will be distant worries. When you look at US forums, its all about the cars not the $. For those of us that actually love cars, and driving, is it possible have more of those topics and leave the depreciation chat to mumsnet?

I believe homologation expires July 6 2025 for build. SRS is homologated under small volume e13*KS18/858 type approval which allows 1500 EU per year with max 250 per state - UK is included in these limits. This approval includes exceptions for cybersecurity and assistance systems.

In fairness it is winter, so not much driving you can do. My car is parked on the street looking sorry for itself as I forgot to buy winter tyres … battery probably flat by now too

Thanks Ralph, so the suggestion is that there will be no 2026 model year for the Spyder RS ...
I was offered an SRS recently. The dealer was very honest and answered my question as to whether this would be close to the end of production he said no way, 130-160 cars yet to be built, so either screw it and just enjoy your machine, or go in with your eyes wide open. Horses for courses. We're all different about how we think about these things...and that's cool!
Porsche are not gonna flood the market with cars, especially if there’s an economic slowdown. Yes, there are a handful of new cars available but that’s not exactly flooding the market.

The OPC I use has had quite a few allocations….would put UK numbers at well over 250 if that was repeated at all OPC’s. They were originally only expecting 2…a bit like Dakar where they were expecting 2 and got 8.

Porsche will sell as many new srs and gt4rs they can. The factory makes money by producing new cars. They will not give two hoots about all the lightly used second hand ones currently for sale.
The srs and gt4rs is a very profitable car for Porsche.
ChrisW has just posted an interesting post on GT build numbers, worth a look. Porsche has definitely ramped up production in recent years.

Sure, it’s a business. But they won’t just continually make cars, if the market has slowed down.

As you know the 4 RS thread has recently been split into 2. The existing one availability/prices/specs etc and the new one for tech/driving.
Both are very interesting maybe more threads should follow suit.

They need to keep that factory running, it can’t just come
to a stop due to the market slowing down otherwise factory’s close and Porsche staff are laid off.
Don’t forget dealerships will already be committed to taking so many of each car. If the market continues to slow dealers may revert to old when discounts on new cars could be negotiated. They may already be doing this, to help slow sales!

What’s your view on it?
Well I wouldn't lock up flexible components into cars that might not sell ... but given that I would have had to place long-forward orders with suppliers who themselves will have forecast their requirements to their suppliers, ... the best solution where I had the biggest shortfall in orders would be to force re-sellers to honour their forecasts by taking cars to their specification ... but in such a way as to minimise any structural damage to the market.
(Black Editions ?)
I would also try to diversify production to clear inventory at component level ... special edition cars ... limited number cars that were limited only to what the market could take ... and of course new models.
The one thing that I would not do is sit on ageing component inventory or shut the factory ... unless I really had no alternative ... an OMG moment.
Imagine the disruption to work shifts / goods in-out / freight forwarding commitments / holiday allocations / and then, cash flow .... all OMG moments.
You can't just stop / start production with all the dangers relating to the reliability of the work that is done, down to component level. E.G. Covid.

I’ve just been offered and taken up a PTS slot for a Spyder RS and I’m proper excited!! I’ve owned 987 and 718 Spyders and loved them, but they both just missed that little bit extra theatre and drama, OPFs and a long 2nd gear doing for the 718… It’s been quite a wait and this will be my first RS car from my OPC after purchasing half a dozen cars over the past 8 years.
Yes prices are softening and the one above shows that OPC’s just don’t want to be sat on stock right now. I was tempted to buy used but the standard colour offerings just don’t do it for me and i’m not a fan of the revealed carbon bonnet which many seem to have. So I told myself if I was to ever buy new it had to be PTS.
So will it depreciate, yes no doubt and I’m not arrogant enough to say I don’t care. However unless the world TOTALLY tares up it’s approach to climate change then this will be one of the very last cars of its kind. The ultimate Spyder specced how I want it is just too good a chance not to take up…

Good on you. I was considering a similar PTS opportunity but Porsche pricing policy really put me off and I passed on it in the end. The beef for me was several fold: the PTS colour I wanted was taken off the list
, you can only spec PTS with the Weissach pack so that’s a £20K uplift before you get to any other options, then you have to pay through the nose for the single colour bonnet. Basically my spec was in excess of £175K which was just too rich for me. Not bad on a car with a basic list of £125K or thereabouts. Glad I did in hindsight because it would have been a £40K drop as I drove it out of the showroom and that is more than the “car to your spec” is worth to me.

Great to see ... a car to your spec at list ... especially with PTS makes for a keeper where the depreciation is repaid in smiles
Will you have the car in time for the spring sunshine ??

Fair enough, but for me this is a car I’ve coveted and hoped for since the 981 Spyder came about, the ultimate Spyder to add to my collection in my spec.
I’ve gone for a fully painted bonnet which was actually a no cost option, a rare freebie!
