The Carrera III`s I have just fitted have a front offset of 57 but are 8 inch wide.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
Got the chance to fit some wheels from a MY06 C 2 Cab 997 to my MY99 C4. Current wheels are 18" Turbo IIs with standard 225/40s front and 265/35s at the rear. The new ones are the 18" Penta thin 5 spoke type which were fitted as standard. Unfortunately I don't have details of the tyres fitted or the offset. Will they fit and will I need to fit spacers? Thanks
It all depends on the offsets. A smaller offset will space the centreline of the wheel further out and a bigger offset will pull it further in. You can get away with smaller offsets to a certain extent but larger ones will need spacers to keep the tyre away from the arch liner.
A couple of guys on this forum have successfully fitted 997 (narrow bodies, ie. not the "4" model) 5-spoke Carrera alloys to a narrow bodied 996 (both pre and post face lift). Check they are original Porsche (BBS, I think?) though....as you can buy "Penta" wheels that are not OEM.
OPC don't recommend fitting 997 Carrera wheels to a 996, but the guys who fitted them haven't reported any adverse affects (yet!).
As my car is under OPC warranty, I'm holding out for some genuine 996 Carrera wheels (at a reasonable price).
If you google for an offset calculator, you can determine how different the new wheels will be (from memory the front ones are further out by about a few mm, the same at the rear).
Do a search under 997 wheels under the 996 forum and you will see plenty of hits.
The Carrera III`s I have just fitted have a front offset of 57 but are 8 inch wide. On the offset calculator, this makes a total difference of 1. However on full lock I am experiencing either a very slight fouling or something else due to the width. I am going to space them out slightly to move them away from the leg and inner arch. Normal driving is perfect.

Hi Steve, I discussed the possibility of 8" fronts fouling the arches as my 996 has M030 suspension (i.e. 30mm lower) with my local Indie. He advised that you can have the front arches rolled - they fit a jig to the hub, takes about 2-3 hours for all 4 - to eliminate the fouling. Might be worth you asking around.
Mine also has Porsche sports suspension. They are not fouling the arches and i`m not yet sure they are fouling onthe inner arch. The feeling is as though the tyre is scrubbing sideways on full lock. It may be catching the leg.
I`ll take one back off at the weekend and have a look
Steve
i have the carera lll wheels on my 99 c2. rears are perfect but the fromts catch slightly on full lock. i have tried spacing them out but have discovered that the tyre profile is causing this problem.
new shoes is the answer.
