They don't last as long but then if you're driving a Porsche, I presume that the cheapest running costs aren't your primary concern.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

with all my other cars, i use continentals or bridgestone tyres... everyone rates the conti sportcontact2 or michelin ps2 on porsches... what about the bridgestone s02 or s02a... anyone with any experience of them... heard they are quieter than the other 2 but what about mileage and more importantly wet grip and braking?..
Not tried the Bridgestones on a 996 but the Contis are better than the Michelins in the wet. However, I would go for the Michelins every time because they are SO much better in the dry than the Contis. They don't last as long but then if you're driving a Porsche, I presume that the cheapest running costs aren't your primary concern.
No, but wet grip might be!!!
Is in my case as it's a daily driver! I've never tried the Michelins, but am very happy with the Contis actually (even though I only bought them because they were cheap and available at the time when most others weren't!)
I'm not saying the Michelins aren't any good in the wet - just that the Contis are better in the wet. In the dry, however, the Contis aren't a patch on the Michelins. IMHO, the better all round package is the Michelin one because the performance difference between the two is greater in the dry than in the wet. If I was to score the two scenarios out of ten, I'd say Contis 8 wet, 7 dry and Michelin 7 wet and 9 dry.
I note that the Pirelli P0 are omitted from the list. I am on those currently, and have been reasonably impressed.
Dont know how long they will last.
Have absolutely no experience of others to make a direct comparison.

Which PZeros? Rossos, Asymmetricos or Corsa/Corsa System?
Personally I'd pay the extra and go with Michelins or Bridgestones for a performance biased tyre, in the summer I'd go with Corsa System.
Continentals are more a 'comfort' tyre than a performance tyre so if outright grip is wanted look elsewhere, but as Seagull says wet grip is good, I can't comment on that as it's been so long since I had Contis on any car (my 4S came with them originally)
In my case, it is the PZero Asymmetricos all round currently.
On my former cars, I have alway been a tyre snob, but I will be honest, I have never truly rated the Michelins in dry performance.
For pure dry no-compromise, you cannot beat the R888s (which is obviously cheating), but after that, I found the most agressive compound to be those of Yokohama.
The pirellis were not manufactured for my previous cars in the correct tyre fitments, so I am still trying to ascertain how much grtip the car as, as opposed to how much grip the tyres themselves are generating.

Ah, but living in England and having a 996 as a daily driver I'd say days when it's dry about 60, days when it's wet 305  So I'll take the best in the dry thanks
If however, I had a 911 as a fairweather toy I'd probably go with the PS2s
Although best tyres I ever had on a Porsche were GSD3s (before I understood all about N-ratings) would still have them if I could get them in the right size, and was brave enough to risk the
insurance
implications
Tyres
I've paid £460 for 2 rear tyres for by C4S, I bought the Mitchelin Pilot Sports N1 rated as a direct replacement for the ones on....295x30x18.
Any idea how many miles my latest "investements" will last ?
I just drive the car like any other Porsche driver would....well within the legal limits....honest!!!
wet performance always a priority for me so i will probably go for the contis... have used pirellis in the past (p6000/pzeros) and found they were always dire in the wet... used it on 3 other cars and even the wife noticed that the cars didn't feel stable thru corners..
The Yoko's are very good tyres, but very, very soft and you'll go through these in no time.
Michellin Sports seem to be the most popular road tyres and what I currently have.
Recently the magazine Car did a test on all the tyres you folks have mentioned... have a look at the back issues.

i just cant remember wat came out on top.. if you wanna know let me know and i`ll dig the mag out tonight.
Would love to see that magazine review. I have had PZero Rosso's on for 4yrs now and am not overly impressed with noise after a bit of wear, or comfort. Trying PS2's in about 1k miles.
Goodyear assymetrics F1's came out clear winners followed by vredestein  . Both were exceptional in the rain and gave the best feedback during cornering braking etc. Also the Goodyear were way ahead on dry track as well. I think they managed to stop 12 metres yes 12m ahead of the Yokohamas which were in last place.
I think the Mich came about 6 or 7 and they had a very similar tread pattern to the Goodyear but couldn't shed the water the same and tended to aquaplane much more.
This was all tested on a front wheel drive Golf GTi so it is subjective to whether it would work the same on a rear engined rear wheel or all wheel drive Porka. All I can think is that it would be similar because at the end of the day (don't know which day) there is a tyre/wheel on each corner of the car, same for all cars.
