The GT3 has always been my dream car and the prices as used cars are finally starting to become "reasonable". I was fortunate enough to find an '07 GT3 at the local Porsche dealer. It had 10k miles and was a CPO vehicle. It was also in near-pristine condition. The previous owner had never tracked it. The dealer and I negotiated a great deal that was too good to pass up, so I traded in my '07 Cayman S for the GT3.
My reasons for choosing the GT3 were relatively simple. I'm really into cars that provide lots of road feel and driver feedback, and are big on overall driver involvement. The Cayman is outstanding here but the GT3 is in a class by itself. The current slump in Porsche sales is a golden buying opportunity, so I jumped on this one.
I would have loved to keep the Cayman along with the GT3, but that's just not practical, so sadly the Cayman had to go. However, the excitement of driving the GT3 grows with each mile.
You can read about my driving impressions of GT3 compared to the Cayman in the Cayman comparisons forum:

I'll still be hanging around in these Cayman forums, so I'm not leaving!
Congrats, you're still a family member
Congratulations! I think you did well trading the Cayman. I bought a 2009 911 C4S last February and I have hardly driven my 2008 Cayman since. I thought I would alternate between both but the reality is the 911 drive is more exciting to me. Not that the Cayman is bad it's just different. Enjoy your new GT3.
Congratulations! The GT3 is a special car, you won't be disappointed.
Different cars for differenrt occasions.
I made a similar move and found an incredible opportunity for a 2010 Porsche Executive C4 with 4,000 miles. I use it all year and the jump made sense to me as well. There really are some deals to be had out there.

Yep...deals abound for those dealers willing to accept the economics of the current economy and those buyers able to capitalize on it as well.
I have a quick question for the Porsche engine experts out there. I know the GT3 is a different engine than the other 911 engines, but does the 997 GT3 engine have the same problems as the 997 911 engines (IMS problem I think it's called)?
How's the GT3 holding up?
As I said on your previous post that's the only car I would trade my CS for, would be nice to hear more from your experience with the car.
I'm still loving the GT3. I look for every opportunity to get out on the road with this beast.
For the winter I put on a set of winter tires (Pirelli 240 Sottozero), but I've only been driving it when the roads are clean (no snow or ice). I did take it out once on packed snow to see how it handled it, and it was actually very good, with no traction problems. The right tires make a big difference.
Now I'm waiting for the warmer weather and the opportunity to get out on the track!
