Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

As per my other thread, OPC Chiswick say that one of my silencers is about to crack/split. Replacement standard ones aren't cheap (£850 for parts excl. VAT & labour) so I am thinking of getting a PSE. Bob (Big Bob) has pointed out that porscheshop has the PSE for £1250. If I dont get PSE, I will save cash and get some 2nd hand original silencers and put them on. But, I have never heard a PSE. Before comitting, I obviously need to hear one, and consider: 1) I dont like 'raspy' sounding exhausts, i prefer a deeper note/gurgle (the current note is nice enough) 2) I dont want it to be too loud cos I drive alot with the roof down - dont want to attract even more attention than I currently do, and also dont want it to deafen me when I drive 3) I understand it can be switched off - I would deffo want this ability 4) From what I read, everyone says it increases resale value, which is obviously good Does anyone have a Cab with PSE, or heard one, and can comment on the difference between PSE and standard? Anyone live in/near Clapham and can let me listen? Thanks, Josh PS - I have a C2 Cab (not sure if C2/C4 would make a difference) PPS - I promise I was a good boy and have just trawled through threads for 25mins looking for comments on PSEs on Cabs in particular. Didnt find what I was after, hence new thread

POST 2Original post

Its a fabulous system. I am a sports exhaust junkie, and have often been disappointed with systems because of off-cam boominess when one isn't in the mood. Its a credit to the PSE that I only ever switch it off out of consideration for sleepy people when I leave for work early in the am, or arrive home at late at night. Otherwise it stays on, and I rack up a lot of commuting miles with it. The sound is deep and characterful, and sounds especially good when shunting around at low speeds, or pulling out of junctions. And of course, gratuitous blips on downshifts. It is quite loud under acceleration, but quietens right down off throttle with no annoying drone. I can't comment on Cab directly, but suffice to say, if its warm enough for the windows to be open, they are! Bear in mind also that there is an auto-switching function that shuts it up between 30-50mph. This is easily disabled, make sure you ask your tech to do it. If Porscheshop will fit the system for £1295, thats very good. Bear in mind that fitting the switchy bit involves a lot of labour, so if that's parts only check how much the fitting will be. I seem to recall the bits were about £1k, with £500 labour in my case £1500 all in (Northways nr Reading). OPC Nottingham were doing it for £1500 all in, other OPCs or specialists may price-match.

Josh, go on www.youtube.com and type Porsche Sports Exhaust in the search line there are plenty of before and after comparisons there. Simon

POST 4Original post

My friend has one on his C4S, I so need to get it on my cab, sounds awesome. Amazing the amount of work needed to put the thing on, apprently seats have to come out, dash etc for the electrics alone. I've tried contacting Nottingham via email to see if they are still doing the special. Anyone know where elese I can get the exhaust and work done apart from the OPC's?

POST 5Original post

Any specialist can do the wiring and plumb the vacuum lines in.....I did it myself on my 4S, just read the instructions and take your time 2-3 hours later you're done. The cans themselves can be fitted by any competent exhaust guy, mine cost about £100 to fit by a local Peugeot motorsport team. I took the car to them and they said 'why would you want to fit those it sounds so good now' 2 hours later I came back and they had grins cheek-to-cheek

POST 6Original post

This is a basic question guys. Can you fit the cans on their own without any electrics at all? ie just a hardware swap. If so what I take it there is no auto silence facility?

POST 7Original post

Yes, the exhaust will be permanently loud The 'auto-silence' is the speedo activated (and actuated) vacuum operated baffles that open and close a section of the exhaust. If you fit the PSE just make sure you feed the vacuum lines into the engine bay, you can then later plumb them all in, but in the meantime enjoy the rorty sound of the PSE

POST 8Original post

Cheers Damian. As for the fitting itself Im happy to do these things myself and fitted a few to Elises in the past. (taking one out of those is like aiding the birth of an elephant. Less space than required for the job ). Assuming I can get ramps to put the car up on is there anything I should know or am likely to need other than the usual socket sets etc? Cheers

POST 9Original post

Be prepared to crack a few seized bolts otherwise it's pretty much how you described. It might be a crappy job to do but if you can do it yourself just thing of the money you're saving
