Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

On occasion, with no rhyme or reason, the car wont start when I turn the ignition key. All staring lights etc are on but no engagement of the starter, not even a click. My solution has been to open and close the engine compartment..it then immediately starts. Had my Porsche mechanic check it out.he could not replicate the circumstances and thought the solution was a bit odd. Thinking about taking it to the dealer but thought Id see if anyone else has had this problem. Thanks for your thoughts.

POST 2Original post

I am running into the same thing. With the ignition held, release the clutch and hit it again and see if it starts. This worked for me. If it does, its likely the clutch start switch under the dash. Even if it doesnt start that way, try jumping the wires to the clutch switch, its under there and easy-ish to get to. It sounds like it would be the issue.

POST 3Original post

Same intermittent problem with my ‘99 cabrio manual. Couple of cycles of the ignition key, clutch pumps, key out & in, door opening, etc. gets around it, but I haven’t figured out the right combination yet. Also when it does work the starter is slow. Newer battery checks out healthy and kept on smart trickle charger nightly.

POST 4Original post

May just be a bad starter. Ideally u can put a jumper in the soliniod wire and monitor it for 12v every time u turn the key. If it still gets 12v when u get no fire then the starter is bad. If u loose power u need to move the wire back in the system to the relay and then further back. It could also be the ignition switch or imobilizer. A multimeter and some time will prevent u from shooting the parts cannon at the car.

OP - is the problem cold, hot, or doesnt make a difference?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I live in coastal San Diego so we dont really have cold or hot days 😎
