Replaced the bulbs in my fog lights with LEDs. Fired up the car to take her out for a quick bath and a drive and got a
PASM
error. Which is strange, since my girl doesn't have
PASM
. Even more strange, when I tried to back out of the garage, the car rolled back about two feet before suddenly stopping short. I got out of the car, thinking I had forgotten to clear my wheel chocks. Nothing there. Got down and checked the floor thoroughly. Again, nothing. Nothing behind the car either. Tried to back out again, and again. Same thing, the car rolls back about two feet before jarring to a stop.
Anyone have any idea as to what may be happening?
Need some more info to think this through. Year, model, manual or automatic (if auto, Tiptronic or
PDK
). Did you disconnect the battery during any of this work?
Agree with Chuck, for example, does it have an electronic emergency brake? Is something you did electrically triggering that or another collateral system? Maybe. When a new problem pops up after work you just completed as Don always says the first place to look is at what you were working on. You might wanna put all the bulbs back in clear the codes and see what happens.
2007
Boxster S
/ 6 speed manual. Battery was not disconnected, but the lamps were turned fully off. A couple of things did occur to me while I was sleeping last night:
1) I have had my
battery tender
on another vehicle for the last couple of weeks, so the charge may be a bit low. I have moved it back over this morning so we will see if that clears the error for the non-existent
PASM
tonight once it has had a chance to charge to full.
2) Last week I swapped out my old, rusty lug bolts with some nice new ones that turned out to be a few mils longer than the original. At the time, I didn't think the difference was enough to matter but now I am wondering if they may be causing issues after all. I will swap them back tonight as well.
Update: The adjustment for the parking brake is done through one of the lug holes in the rotor, I just did mine recently and had to go back through some pics to remember. As you say the new lug bolts are slightly longer, there is a good chance there’s interference with the p-brake adjuster. If you still have the old lug bolts, put them back on and see if the problem goes away. If so, that’s your issue.
Many years ago I bought a used set of wheel spacers for my
Cayman
that came with longer lug bolts to accommodate the 15mm spacers on the rear. Turns out the bolts were a couple mm too long and they hit something on the parking brake. It just made a knocking sound when moving and luckily it didn't damage the brake. I just used a grinding wheel to knock a little off each bolt. Still running with them.
We called it guys: Swapped the lug bolts back to stock and was able to back the girl out of the garage without Issue. I'll pull the rotors this weekend and make sure there is no damage inside there before I take it out on the road. And getting the battery tipped back off seems to have cleared the phantom
PASM
error as well.
Thanks for the help everyone!

i am looking into aliexpress for LED for my fog light.. after reading ur thread, i am too afraid to do so. any update on
PASM
error?
Once I got my battery back on the tender to get it topped off the errors went away. Overall, I am happy with the change.
