Suggestion

If the battery is OK I would first suggest a fuse by fuse, relay by relay check of the fuse box, before delving further.

Suggestion

In fact as I travelled to the OPC to have the new battery fitted, the car cut out as I slowed for the last set of lights, but as I had not stopped I was able to "bump start" it, the engine fired and kept running thankfully.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

99 C2 996 58k. serviced 200m ago. owned for 2 years+ no problems. PSE fitted 100miles ago.no bother. On way home this morning Engine just stopped / cut out at the lights. no previous miss fire. all dash board and controls working - just dead on turning key. starter motor not even clicking.dead as door nail. Had her towed to my local garage. Iam informed electrical problem. Tried new spare key hoping it might be imobiliser in key at fault. Cant get it looked at till Monday.(not under warranty) Any ideas to help me sleep till monday. Thanks Rich.

POST 4Original post

Hi Rich I assume ,that while it sounds from your description that the Battery could have failed, it was OK? I got to a point where my previous battery became very unreliable, and I noted that where the instrument panel lights came up but there was insufficient power to even flutter the Starter Solenoid. In fact as I travelled to the OPC to have the new battery fitted, the car cut out as I slowed for the last set of lights, but as I had not stopped I was able to "bump start" it, the engine fired and kept running thankfully. If the battery is OK I would first suggest a fuse by fuse, relay by relay check of the fuse box, before delving further. Anyway don't lose too much sleep over it - although if you are like me you wont be able to rest until you know what actually is wrong :x . Good luck. Big Bob

POST 5Original post

Sorry Rich, just jesting with ya... Actually, on further thought... give JZM a call and ask to speak with Dave Lee. He's bit of a guru on all things electrical in the Porsche.
