I didn't need to replace the projectors, but I eventually will just for the heck of it.

I am considering mounting some Hella driving lamps on my bonnet. My very good indie shop said they are not comfortable doing this wiring work and weren�t sure who one would go to have this done.
Any idea of what sort of shop would do this? I�m located in Maine where it gets dark early.
I understand the worry.
The bonnet/hood is not very thick and might bend under the strain.
I wouldn’t want to be the shop to find out.
But a Harbor Freight drill, an automatic center punch, a small bit to start with and a stepper bit will allow you to mount the lights.
The wiring is simple as well.
I can provide instructions on what I would do, or take it to a stereo shop and they should have no issues with the wiring.
It’s very simple. Wire, fuse tap, relay, connectors, switch, done.

Yes, the 996.1s have factory fog lights.
Personally, I�d tap into the high beam signal. I assume the OP intends to use these on the road, and I would imagine it�d be difficult to fumble for the fog lamp switch in a moment of panic - for when another driver suddenly appears.
But I think it would be best to go a step further and have the driving lights be turned on with two triggers. You can then retain the use of your factory high beams without actuating the driving lamps. For that strategy, I think the fog light switch would be an excellent secondary trigger - so your driving lights don�t function unless you have both the fog lights and high beams switched on.

About a year ago I shined up my headlights, ceramic coated them, upgraded all the bulbs which you can find in the link below and what a HUGE difference at night. I didn't need to replace the projectors, but I eventually will just for the heck of it.

Your call, but I would look for another frunk lid on ebay in your color and buy it for when you tired of the Dakar look or decide to sell it. Once a genuine Porsche indy knows you have a back up, they will probably be more willing to take on the job. Personally, I wouldn't rely on any stereo shop.
But do yourself a favor and upgrade your light bulbs. You would be suprised.
